Invited Review ~ Ivy's Kitchen @ Jalan Chow Thye, Penang

Would you like to have some Nyonya Cuisine? Steamboat dinner? Penang hawker delights? If you are undecided what you want to have, perhaps, you can drop by to Ivy's Kitchen.
Ivy's Kitchen is located @
58 Jalan Chow Thye, 102520 Penang
(It is situated next to ISARIBI Japanese Restaurant and near to 127 Food Court Centre)
Tel: 013-4337878 (Tan) and 0164337130 (Ivy)
Business Hours: 9.00am - 9.00pm
(except Saturday from 12 noon onwards)
A wide range of menu and free newspaper for reading while waiting for your foods being served. Currently, Ivy's kitchen is installing air condition for the interior dinning. For the outside dining, there are fans too!
Wide ranges of fruit juices such as Honey Dew Juice, Ambala Sour Plum, Watermelon Juice, Cucumber Mint Juice, Orange Juice, Apple with Lime (New) and Carrot with Milk Juice.
Criz asked Tan to make us wide range of juices as we are undecided what to have except for Allen. So, Tan came out with the wide range of juices for us to choose from. ^-^
Tan new invention is Apple with Lime. Cynthia have this and she feels that it has too much lime in there for her personal liking. Chan took the cucumber mint and he reckon that there are more cucumber in there than mint. ^-^ All the drinks cost RM2.20 each.
Tofu Seaweed Soup ~ RM8 (S), RM10 (M) and RM14 (L)
I start off by writing the soup first as my gal kept telling me that her teacher told them that they should finished the soup first before start with the other dishes. So prevent her from nagging me, I better write this first. ^-^
There are lots of ingredients in the soup such as seaweed, vegetables, tofu, fish balls, prawn, hand made chicken balls and........ The soup are very tasty although it is an simple soup. I guess my gal will loves it very much.
White Rice
Sweet and sour flower crab ~ RM30 per 600g
Ah.... this is one of their signature dishes. Since it is sweet and sour flower crab, it does not taste spicy at all. But I think my gal will find it a hint of spicyness. But if you want to have more spicy crab, you can always tell them when you placed your order. Or the other way round when you have kids dinning with you, you can always asked them to reduce the spicyness. I think most of us love the sauces very much to go with the rice. The crab is very fresh and nice. We were thinking that if there are mantou to go with that will be GREAT. But according to Tan, it needs lots of preparing for the mantou. So they did not served it with mantou at the time being.
Joo Hu Char ~ RM10
One thing that I should mention here is that Ivy's Kitchen is a Pork Free Traditional Nyonya Cuisine. So, there are no pork being served here. All the ingredients use are mainly chicken. So as the Joo Hu Char, although it did not used pork, it still tastes good and juicy. I love Joo Hu Char but I never prepared it by myself. Most of the time, I saw my MIL and hubby aunt prepared this dish as it needs plenty of time to cut all the ingredients into small tiny slices. You can always have Joo Hu Char with the rice or even with the vegetables provided.
Lor Bak ~ RM6
Ah.... another one of my favorite food - lor bak. Please reminded again this is chicken lor bak. I like the lor bak that wrap very tightly and firm. And this shop serves the lor bak that I like. It is very crispy in the outer part.
Assam Prawn ~ RM4-5
Prawn....... that's my favorite food. I eat lots of prawn since I am young. I recall that I had whole plate of prawn by myself when I am small. ^-^ Assam Prawn is one of the finger licking food. Why I said that it's finger licking food? As because all the assam flavor is inact with the prawn shells. And when you suck the prawn, all the flavour is there. Some prefer their assam a bit wet but this shop Assam Prawn is a dry version. I enjoyed having this. ^-^
Gulai Tumis Ikan ~ RM9 Per 100gm
Next, we had some gulai tumis ikan. I think everyone enjoy it very much. The fish is very fresh. There are lots of herbs used in this gulai tumis ikan. For me, the curry is not very spicy. I guessed my gal might like to try this when she wants some curry fish next time. This is one of the recipes that passed down by Tan's mother. Give it a try!
Sambak Kailan ~ RM8 (Small), RM10 (Medium), RM14 (Large)
I loves this dish very much. The kailan use is very "young". And the sambal is very nicely blend and delicious. Next time, I will order a large plate for my next visit. ^-^
Beef Rendang
This is a complimentary dish for us to try. Since, I did not take beef, I did not try it. But Cheryl and Alan, love it very much.
Dessert - Red Bean Longan ~ RM2 each
Last but not least, here comes the dessert. It is Red Bean Longan dessert. I personally love the red bean longan dessert as it is not very sweet. And the red bean cooked to the perfect timing. I don't mind to have many bowl of this dessert. ^-^
I would like to thanks Criz for organising this review for us as I missed the last review. And also Tan and Ivy for inviting us to try their delicious foods. Apart from the chu char they serves, they also serve some set meal. Give it a try! and let me know what you think about this place. I am going back to try their Cincaru. ^-^
Ivy's Kitchen is also running some promotion where each RM5 you spent, you are entitled for one stamp. Once you accumulate 10 stamps in one card, you entitle for a free set meal, or RM7.50 discount on total bill. But for bill discount on total bill, maximum 2 cards are allowed per visit.

Koay Tiaw Th'ng @ Air Itam Market, Penang

During one outing with hubby, hubby wants to try the Koay Chap at Air Itam Market. So we get up early and head to Air Itam. No matter it is weekday or weekend, there are lot of people in Air Itam market. Parking is also a problem. We have to park far away and walk to the destination every time. ^-^ Good exercise for us.
We were so disappointed that the Koay Chap stall is not open on that particular day. So we decide to try the koay tiaw thn'g since some one told me that the KTT is nice.
Koay Teow Soup Stall
Koay Tiaw Thn'g
I have this koay tiaw thn'g and hubby asked for extra fish ball. That's why there are many fish ball on my bowl of KTT. Well, the koay tiaw that I had is a bit blunt. But the soup base is ok and I fall in love with the minced pork. The minced pork included "Tang Chai" in it. So, it makes the minced pork more flavor. ^-^
Koay Tiaw Mee Soup
Hubby had this. And he reckons that the KTT is just so-so for his liking but agree with me that the minced pork tastes nice.
Have you try this KTT before? and how about the koay chap? Anybody know the operating hours?

Thai Garden Restaurant & Pub

During one outing, hubby is asking us what shall we have for dinner. And all of sudden, we kept quiet as cannot think of what we want. Then hubby suggest that we go for Thai foods. As we noticed a Thai restaurant along Light Street few months ago. Since there are no objection from my gal, we head down to town.
Restaurant address and contact numbers. For map location, please view
here.
Outside of Thai Garden Restaurant & Pub
Today Special Menu and the business hour is from 11am till late night. (Open daily)
Interior of Thai Garden Restaurant & Pub. When we about to enter this shop, I notice that it is also a pub. Then I asked my hubby whether our little gal can go in or not. ^-^ Then hubby told me, one way to find out is to go in and see. lol So...... we were greeted by the waiter there and they lead us to the sitting area. You have to passed through their pub area then will lead you to the sitting area as above photo.
Table setting
Home Made Cocktail - Cranberry Juice
Homemade cocktail - Mango
Claypot Glass Noodles ~ RM16
This is the only dish that we ordered that are not spicy among the others. ^-^ And the noodles are nice but a bit too salty for our liking. There are many prawns in there but sorry I just realised that I did not took a photos of it. The mini claypot is very cute and nice. It's just like "masak-masak" that my gal plays. ^-^
Tom Yam Gong ~ RM14.50
Ah.....off course have to order some tom yam gong to try when we are dining in the Thai restaurant right? So, we ordered and try. The verdict is, I think I am the only one who finished the soup. ^-^ Both hubby and my gal found it is very spicy. However, my hubby can't stop himself to sip on the soup even he found it spicy as he loves it very much. He is so "tam chiak". lol Honestly, there are lots of ingredients and herbs in there. I don't mind to have it all by myself. *o*

Prawn with pineapple with special curry ~ RM16
Since we saw this on the today special menu while on our way into this shop, we decide to order it since my gal loves pineapple very much. This is not as spicy as the Tom Yang Gong but my gal still find it a bit spicy for her. But she loves it very much.
Gaeng Kieow Waan ~ RM16
My gal wants to order some green curry to try. But it turns out to be very spicy for her. She told me that she loves the flavours very much. There are lots of herbs in this green curry. And the aroma is very nice. Furthermore, the chicken is very tender.
If you like to try some Thai Food, you can drop by and give it a try. The service is very attentive. I noticed that there are quite numbers of people patronise this shop when I dine in there. And some seems like their regular customers.

Invited Review - No Eye Deer Restaurant @ Jalan Fettes, Tanjung Tokong

How many times do you asked your friends, families, colleagues........ where should we have our meal? Usually, most of the time, I will have the answers such as no idea, up to you, don't know, "chin chai"........... all sorts of this.
Ok now, I help you to decide where to have your lunch or dinner. Which is in No Eye Deer Restaurant. It's sound like "no idea" right? Today, I am going to blog about
No Eye Deer
Location: 98-1-26 Prima Tanjung, Tanjung Tokong, 11200 Penang.
Tel: 04 - 8990488
Business hour: Weekdays 6pm - 11pm
Weekends 12pm -11pm
Close on Tuesday
Some interior settings of No Eye Deer Restaurant
See the photos of deer on the left? It is done by the proprietor ~ Mr. Ken Low himself. As he cannot find the deer design photos, so he decided to paint himself. There are more photos around the restaurant. Come and find out yourself. ^-^
Cariso and I arrived there early. And we were directed to our seat. Then we were given the menu to have a look. And we order some drinks as following:
Pink Guava Juice ~ RM4.20++
This drink has a very strong guava aroma. And if you like guava, you will love this drink.
Drama Queen ~ RM8.80++
Glamorous smoothie of pink guava & pineapple with sour plum.
I prefer this drink than Wacky Wizard as it has the combination of the guava and pineapple is so click. ^-^
Chunky Monkey RM8.80++
A rich and delicious banana smoothie with ice cream & chunky peanuts.
There are lots of peanuts in this drink.
Wacky Wizard ~ RM8.80++
Delicious & wacky smoothie of mango yogurt & pineapple.
Lingzie and I had this drink. Well, the drink is not bad. But if they can have more mango in my drink, it would be perfect for me. ^-^
When every one arrived except the organiser ~ Steven, we proceed to order some foods. Actually Cariso and I are not too sure that this is the invited review. As we thought that we are gather to discuss something. But after we confirmed with everyone, we were thrilled. As this is the first review that we can choose whatever we want to try. As usually, we just review whatever foods and drinks that are prepared by the proprietor.
So after much discussion Lingzie order:
Laotian Laksa (Beef or Chicken) ~ RM12.80++
Our famous signature dish of rice noodle in a spicy & piquant soup with tender beef or chicken, bean sprouts and basil.
When ordering this dish, Lingzie is asking if everyone taking beef. And Bee and I said we don't but we would like them to order it to try. But when this dish is being served, we have two kind of flavours, one bowl of beef and one bowl of chicken. Ken came and told us that since we don't take beef, he asked the kitchen to prepare the chicken version for us. He is very kind and attentive.
Everyone get to taste the chicken too. And they reckon that the beef version is better than the chicken version. The Chicken Laotian laksa tastes very nice. This is my first time having it. I think every one loves and enjoy having this bowl of Laksa.
We took quite a long time to shoot. Ken kept reminding us to dig in as he worried the textures of the noodles. But the textures of the noodles still maintain alright. So phew...... for Ken.
Chicken Parmigiana ~ RM18.80++
Italian styled chicken fillet with stewed tomato and Mozzarella cheese. Served with mash potato and salad.
The chicken is very tender but a bit dried up. Perhaps due to our shooting time. As Bee told us that when she had this previously, it is very juicy. The mashed potatoes tastes very nice too.
Traditional Grilled Steak ~RM29.80++
Char-grilled tender beef steak with traditional rich brown gravy and served with homemade mashed potato, broccoli & carrots.
This is an order by Chris. And he is kind enough to let us take photos and also let us try some of them. I am the one who help them to cut the steak into small pieces and let them try. And the verdict is, wow..... this is very nice, very tender, very juicy, ho chiak........ that's what I heard from them. ^-^
Pumpkin Soup
This is also order from Leslie.
Jumbo Vienna Sausage ~ RM15.80++ I
Smoked chicken sausages served with mashed potato and salad. The sausages taste very nice. I like the sausages firm and this sausages is up to my standard. ^-^

Pan grilled Sea Bass with white sauce (RM19.80+)
Pan-grilled white fish fillet with a tangy white sauce and served with fresh crisp salad & mashed potato.
Usually, when we had something with white sauce, we will end up full very fast. But for the white sauce served in No Eye Deer is totally different as they add some lime into it. So you will not have that "Jilat" feelings.
The fish tastes very nice and juicy.
We were told that their fish and chips are one of the best selling items. So, when you drop by, please try it out.
Today Special : Meaty Beef Pie ~RM16.80++
Served with golden french fries & fresh crisp cos lettuce. This is the today special and not in the menu. Sometime, you shall asked them for their today special. And we have the honour to try this out. After tasting this, their verdict is nice. I try the chips and I fall in love with it and I told Bee about this. And she also reckon that it is very nice and crispy. I told Bee to pass around or else, I will just finished the chips in no time. ^-^

Caveman Platter (for 3-5 pax) ~RM68.00++

Mixed platter of char-grilled lamb, chicken kebabs, chicken sausages, chicken wings & pepper lamb sausages. This is the last dish to arrived and it is the mixed platter. It is a bit dry for some parts of the char-grilles lamb and chicken wings. But still taste ok. The chicken kebabs, chicken sausage and pepper lamb sausages are nice.

Coffee Jelly ~ RM5.80++
'Fantastically refreshing" Japanese Jelly dessert served with silky fresh cream and syrup (voted Best Jelly in Malaysia by readers of 'The Star' Newspaper 23rd March 2008).
I am telling all of them, I wanna have desserts. Must have desserts and all of them laugh at me. I insist that we must have the Coffee Jelly since it is voted as best jelly in Malaysia. ^-^ At the first bite, the coffee jelly is very bitter but when it immerse with the fresh cream and syrup. It tasted nice. Have a try!
Upside Down Ice Cream ~ RM4.80++
Double scoop of vanilla ice cream drizzled with melted chocolate and roasted nuts served with a wafer cone in an ingenuous way.
We did not have this. This is Chris desserts. ^-^ I think my gal would love this ice-cream. I will bring her there for fish and chips, spaghetti and also ice-cream.
I would like to thanks Steven for organising this review for us and also many thanks to Mr. Ken Low.

Sungai Pinang Food Court

During the opening of Sungai Pinang Food Court, we went there over the weekend. And it was very crowded. I guessed because it's new opening, so every one is flocking in to try the foods offered in this food court. If hubby did not mentioned this place, I have all forgotten about this place. As when they are doing some renovation of the food court, we passed by there and saw their banner. Since one outing, hubby and gal want some hawker foods, so we headed to Sungai Pinang Food Court. Alan and Jian has blog about this place as well. Please pop by their blogs have more food choices.
During this outing, hubby and gal went around and ordered some of the foods below:
(You must be wonder, where am I right? I have to sit down and reserve place for them lor or else we cannot get a seat. lol)

Pineapple Chicken Rice
My gal wanna have some rice, and both hubby and gal chose this. The chicken is very tender and tastes nice but a bit spicy for my gal though.
Ikan Bakar
Hubby loves the ikan bakar and the fish. He is the one who almost finished the whole plate.
Belachan fried Chicken
You can find this belachan chicken stall in many location in Penang. And their deep fried belachan chicken tastes nice.
"So Tei" Soup with noodles
Since I told hubby that I want some soup. So he went to this stall that's sell all kind of soups. Hubby intend to order other soup for me but was told that the business is too good and was sold out. So he recommended hubby to try this" So Tei" soup. And you have the choice to go with rice or noodles. The stall owner kept telling hubby that their noodles are very tasty. So how could hubby reject it since it is recommended by the stall owner.
Hubby found that the noodles are ok. But wilI prefer some QQ textures. lol The soup base is ok only for my tastes bud. ^-^
Laksa
hubby order himself a bowl of laksa to try and he comment that the laksa is just taste normal only.
Well, that's what we had for our dinner @ Sungai Pinang Food Court. There are still many stalls to explore, they even have desserts stall, fried rice stall, claypot rice stall and many more. Pop by there and try it out yourself.

Restoran Double Dragon Inn @ Gottlieb Road, Penang

Today, I am going to blog about Restoran Double Dragon Inn. We almost forgot the existing of this shop until last year when my sis in law and her friend brought my hubby's uncle to this shop for dinner. Since then we been wanting to go and try out their foods. But always kept forgetting it. Until few months ago where we have the chance to step in this shop and try out their foods.
Restoran Double Dragon Inn
Location: 27B Gottlieb Road, 10350 Penang.
Tel: 04-2277049
Business Hour: 12noon - 2pm and 6.45pm -9.30pm
(Closed on Tuesday)
When we enter the restaurant, we were told that we have to wait for certain time. The uncle is asking us whether we can wait. And after much discussion, we decided to wait although we are very hungry back then. ^-^
"Phau Chee" ~ RM69
This is actually the last add on dish that we order. As after finished our order, we saw that they also serve "Phau Chee" and it is also their "Chef Special" for RM69. So hubby was asking whether we wanna try it out since we need to wait for others food to come.
After not sure how long, this is being served after all the dishes. And the tastes is very authentic flavour from all the shark fin, dried scallops.......... But my gal doesn't like it as she prefers other type of soup.
Sour Plum Deep Fried Chicken ~ Rm16
The uncle who took our order suggest this dish to us. The deep fried chicken tastes nice. The chicken is very tender and crispy. You can either dip with the sour plum sauce provided or eat it without the sauce. I found that both choices are great.
Stir Fry Lettuce ~ RM8
The lettuces are wonderful. As it is not too soft. We like the textures that way. I think most of this grab by my gal. ^-^
Stir fry Prawns with carrots, green beans and cashew nuts ~ RM19
Actually, I cannot recall the name of this dish. I just recall that the uncle asked if we want some prawns. And he told us that my gal will love this dish. So no harm of trying. Although this plate of prawn looks very simple but it tastes not bad too. Especially the prawn. Prawn is not over cooked or under cooked. Just perfect timing.
That's one of our weekend lunch. There are many people patronise this shop too. The shop is air condition. So it is one of the good choices to have a nice weekend lunch.

Sarkies Corner @ E & O Hotel, Penang

Ever since after the dinner @ Sarkies Corner @ E & O Hotel, hubby asked me to post this blog and I kept postponing it as I have to squeeze everything in this blog. ^-^ And some of the blogger's friends suggest that I can go for Part 1, Part 2 and so on........ But I decided to do it in one posts.
This is actually my hubby birthday celebration few months ago. I asked hubby to choose where he gonna have his birthday celebration this year and he felt like having some buffet. Hubby wants something out of Bayan Lepas area so in my mind, there are two suggestion, one is Spice Market
Cafe @Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa and the other one is Sarkies Corner @ E & O Hotel. Since hubby birthday is fall on Friday and we intend to go after work. So we chose Sarkies Corner to avoid the long hour drive from Bayan Lepas.

Sarkies Corner
Address: 10 Lebuh Farquhar,10200 Penang, Malaysia.
Tel : +(6) 04 222 2000 Ext 3175
Fridays and Saturdays from 7pm-10.30pm.

Table setting and Interior of Sarkies Corner
Usually people will blog about the entree, follow by the main course and desserts. Today, I decided to blog another way round. I will start with the desserts first. As there are lots of desserts to choose from. I think I don't have to elaborate more about this and will let the pictures do all the talking. ^-^
Chocolate Fountain Corner and with marshmallow, fruits (strawberry and grapes) and all sort of nuts, raisin and chocolate for the ice-cream toppings. Opps..... did not take photos of the ice-cream corner...... ^-^
Want to have some ice-cendol? Want more corns, kidney beans.......... in your cendol? Feel free to make your own ice-cendol.
Assorted cakes, creme brulee, chocolate, jelly....... OMG that's a lot of this. While I am busy taking this photos, I kept telling myself that I "MUST" spare some of my tummy space for all these desserts. lol
Assorted starters and salads to choose from. I am sure there are something you will love from every corner.
Want to have some sashimi, tuna, mussels, prawn, smoked salmon, turkey slice? Well, you can always come here and choose whatever you want and also have varieties of sauces to go with.
Not enough of sashimi? Want some fresh oysters and scallop? Well, there are one corner you can find this fresh oysters and scallop. Furthermore, there are also crab stick, assorted of meat slice, century eggs.........
And don't worry about the oysters and scallop being gone in no time. As it was always being filled when they run out.
Want some roast chicken, duck, meat, corn and assorted vegetables?
Also they have one BBQ/grilled section of assorted seafood's. You can asked the chef to help you to cook assorted seafood's available. And they are very friendly and attentive too.
There are some deep fried food section too. There are lots of varieties such as calamari, prawn, small crab, tiny octopus.......... It is some of fingers food available in the deep fried section next to the grilled/BBQ counter.
There are varieties of other cooked foods such as curry chicken, mussels, vegetables, fried rice and.........
Above are some of the foods that we ate. I did not take all of the photos since I am busy eating after around 30 minutes of taking photos from almost every corner. ^-^ The spaghetti and pasta can be ordered through the cooking section where chef will cook for you after you chose what type of pasta/spaghetti. And we had few plates of that too.
Another thing to be mention here, is they also provided free flow of beers, red wine, white wine....... as some other place you have to pay for the drinks.
I would recommend that this place to my friends, families and readers as it is a nice place to dine with and furthermore, the service that we had for that night is so wonderful. While I am busy taking photos, hubby and my gal already started eating. And on one occasion, hubby went to the nearby counter to get some food and my gal was enjoying her foods by herself. One of the waiter came over and tell my gal that she got some chocolate on her face and asked my gal to wipe it off. Hmm..... I feel that they are very attentive to all their customers and make their customer feel like at home. So three of us enjoy the buffet dinner very much.
The buffet dinner cost us RM193.55 (including service charge and government tax). You might be wondering huh???? why different with the price? Well, we get some discount if you pay with certain credit card. ^-^ The actual price is RM99++ for Adults, RM46.00++ for Children.

Dim Sum Food Restaurant @ Macalister Road, Penang

Dim Sum Dim Sum Dim Sum........ Many of the food blogger's in Penang have blog about this place before and during one occasion where my gal have to attend some replacement class from her school, hubby and I drop here and we went to have "Dim Sum". lol And when she found out that we went to have dim sum, she is like "hmm...... why you did not bring me along".
Today, I am going to blog about:
Dim Sum Food Restaurant
Some man made water fall setting in the restaurant. Hubby and I were sitting next to this waterfall. Since I am waiting for my hubby to order dim sum for us. I have nothing to do and capture this piece of man made waterfall pictures.
After browsing through the dim sum corner, hubby picked some of the following:
Har Guo
The har guo here is fresh and you can see that they have one prawn in there and the taste vice is ok.
Steamed Spare Ribs
Spare ribs tastes tender.

Siew Mai
The tastes of the siew mai is not bad.
I forgot what this is called and it is combination of prawn, meat and some vegetables in there and the overall tastes is quite good.

Chicken Feet
Custard Pao
We found that the custard pao a bit too creamy for our tastes bud and it has a very strong butter aroma in there. To be frank, we did not finished the custard pao as we were too full looking at the creamy custard pao. ^-^ But if you love creamy custard, you will surely love this. ^-^

Char Siew Pao
Hubby ordered one char siew pao to try as we were thinking to "take away" some char siew pao since my gal loves it. But after hubby tasted it, he told me better don't order that for my gal as he reckon that my gal will not like it. But the pao is ok..... nothing fancy..... ^-^

Steamed fish with hor fun and bee hoon
And we ordered this when we were seated. This is the first order but the last to come. As they need time to prepare it. ^-^ The fish slice is very fresh. I prefer the hor fun than the bee hoon for this dish as I personally felt that the hor fun can absorb the tastes better for this dish than the bee hoon. This plate of steamed fish with hor fun and bee hoon is very big and both of us seem like digging for long long time to finish this. ^-^ The price vice is very reasonable.
There are lots of choices to choose from. Do drop by when you need some "dim sum". A piece of advice is to go early to avoid the waiting time. We been there once over the weekend, it is full house and we left. The second visit we managed to get a seat. lol

O & N Cafe Shop @ Green Lane, Penang

Sorry that I am unable to update my blog so frequently these days as been quite busy but I promised that I will try to blog one or two blog once a week. My draft folder is going to be full if I kept postponed. ^-^
During one outing last month, we decided to try "Chu Char" again since my gal wants to have some rice for the night. So we recall that there is one shop in Green Lane that offers some "chu char" so we decided to give it a try! The shop is
O & N CAFE SHOP
Business hour: 4 - 10.30pm (Close Thursday)
It is located in the same row as Mutiara Selera. (Next to Sports Toto Shop)
There are lists of foods that they wrote on the white board inside the shop and also in front of the shops. And After browsing through and recommendation from the person who took our order. We order the following foods:
Watercress Soup
If you follow my blog for quite some time, you will noticed that I always ordered this soup as my gal fond of this soup very much. And the size of the soups are very big. It seems like it will be no ending of soup as I kept scoop scoop scoop and there are still more. lol
Stir fry vegetables with garlic
When this vegetables dish being serves, my first impression is like.... hmmm....this must be so-so. But after I tasted..... hmm... not bad leh... the vege taste so fresh. And hubby also reckon that it tastes nice.
Pai Kut Ong
Ah...., first of all look at the serving plate. Nowadays, it's hard to see this kind of plate being served in the restaurant. ^-^
As for the foods, the pai kut ong is very tender and juicy. It tastes quite nice and my gal enjoying it very much.
Curry Kapitan Chicken
Ah.... this dish is under "Today Special" list. And we were recommend to have a try! So we order this. This turn out to be quite nice. Chicken is very tender and the curry Kapitan is rich of aroma.
Overall, the foods are very reasonable cheap. It cost us RM28 for all the above dishes and 3 plates of white rice.
At first when we entered the shop we saw not much customers around but half way through our meal, we saw lots of customers visiting this shop. So a piece of advice is to go early and avoid the long waiting time.

Ah Joo Durian @ , Teluk Kumbar, Penang

Durian Durian Durian.......... every where you go around Penang, you will easily spot the durian stall. Some are managed by chinese and some are Malay. If you are durian lover, you will love it. But some of my friends who are not the durian fans, hate it very much during the durian season. ^-^ But they have to bear the long season mainly from May to August.
Ok now back to the place that I am going to introduce are located in Teluk Kumbar. When Steven told me about Teluk Kumbar, my mind only flashes with seafood. Teluk Kumbar Seafood and Hai Boey Seafood. ^-^ I really cannot imagine that we are having Tropical Foods for our dinner.
Direction to Ah Joo Durian Stall: Using Jalan Bayan Lepas to Teluk Kumbar and passed by a mosque shown as the photos below and look out for FOREVER STAR ELECTRICAL & HAPPY PLUMBER TRADING on your right. Then Ah Joo durian stall is just next to it. You can asked around the local to get direction if you are lost, the local know them well as AH Joo durian have been operating for about 17 years.

Ah Joo Durian Stall

Before the durian talk, first let talk about rambutan. Ah Joo Durian stall also sell rambutan. All the rambutan sold here are from Balik Pulau. When we arrived there, we saw lots of rambutan at the back of the car boot. And I can't resist to take some photos of it. And we get to tasted the rambutan too. And the rambutan tasted very juicy.
Rambutan are sold at the price of RM5 for 3kg and RM2 for 1kg.

Langsat, Mangosteen and Cempedak
They also sold other local fruits such as langsat, mangosteen and cempedak. My dad loves langsat so much. Whenever he saw langsat, he always buy it. I tried one of the langsat and it tastes great. It cost RM2 per kg.
Next is Mangosteen, I am not the fans of mangosteen but you can get 2 kg for RM5 and 1kg for RM3. They also sell cempedak. That's my SIL favorites. Too bad that she cannot have it this year since she is overseas. Every year she will buy cempedak and deep fried it. So I always have free juicy deep fried cempedak to eat during this season. Cempedak (red meat) cost RM3 for 1kg.

Many types of durian sold in this stall. And above are the photos of the owner ~ Ah Joo. The boss is a very friendly person, just tell him what kind of durian you after, he will recommend you what to have.
During the visit, we had several types of durian. Please refer to the following for more details:

Ooi Kiau Ong/ Kunyit Kunning 黄姜(Below RM 10)
This type of durian tested very creamy, bitter and smooth. Furthermore, this is the cheapest durian we have tested among the rest. Although the durian is cheap but kunyit kunning has it own attraction.

KIM POH ~ Below RM15
After the first bites, every one have the feeling like we are having some ice-cream except It is not being served in cold. And the textures of this durian is very creamy and soft.
Hor Lor 葫芦 ( Below RM 15) and Ang Hae/ Udang Merah/ Otak Udang 红虾 (RM10 - RM30)
Hor lor.... ah...... it tested sweet in the outer layer but when you eat towards the end, it tested a bit bitter. Don't get me wrong with the bitterness. It is not like the bitter gourd. ^-^ It is just a way to describe it. For me hor lor get the top bitterness among other durians that we tested.
As for Ang Hae, it tested mostly sweet and only a little hint of bitterness towards the end. And the seed is very small in size. It has a very creamy and silky textures. I still can recall when Cariso having Ang Hae, she was so excited and kept pointing at the durian. She falls in loves with it after the first bite. ^-^ I think most of us like it too with the smooth and silky textures but be warn it is very rich. The Ang Hae that we had cost RM16.
We were told that we cannot consume the Ang Hae straight away after it drop from the tree as we need to wait for few hours. So don't consume Ang Hae straight away if you have the chance to go to durian orchard. ^-^
Chae Pui 青皮(RM 8 -RM20) and Tatt Kar Chui (Below RM10) 塞屁股
Chae Pui is translated from "Hokkien". Normally, if you saw the durian flesh inside appear as green-based for Chae Pui, it usually tastes bitter. And it tested sweet from the beginning and towards the end, it turns a bit bitternes. The seed is very very small. The one that we had cost around RM8.
As for the tatt kar chui, err..... you must be wondering what is that? Well, that's our reaction too. I think this is the name created by the owner and was told that it is a new species. The taste is very sweet. If you love sweet durian, this will suit you.
