THE BARN @ Gurney Plaza, Penang

During one of our visits to Gurney Plaza, we decided to try out "THE BARN" which it is located at GP-170-G-43. Contact number: 04-2290967.

We have total of six persons dine in during our visit. After we browsing through the menu, all of my guests and hubby knew what to order except me. So I ask for some suggestion from the waiter and he suggest to me to take THE BARN famous pork ribs which they claimed it to be one of the famous dishes. Actually he did suggest me beef but I am not taking any beef so I opt for the ribs.

Before I elaborate more towards the food, let me brief you with the interior. Restaurant is fill with different kind of wines. The interior lighting is a bit like place for a drink.

Caramelised roasted pork burger - RM27.26

One of my guests is having this and she claimed that the roast pork burger was nice.

The BARN famous pork pizza - RM32.90

Hubby opt for the pizza and decided to order the famous pizza from the house. Hubby did not quite enjoyed the pizza as he is not used to the cheese that used.

Crispy Pork Spaghetti - RM31.02

My gal is having this and she had the difficulty with the crispy pork as she claimed that it is a bit too tough on the crispy part of the pork.

BBQ baby back pork ribs - RM55.46

At the end my sister in law and I were having this. As the one she ordered was out of stock. She reckon that the pork ribs she had is a bit tough and had difficulty cutting it.

However mine is not too bad but I would agree that the pork ribs are slightly too dry to our likings. 

Actually before ordered this ribs I did asked the waiter how big was the serve and I was told that it is for one person. It is actually good for 2 persons I think. If we knew the serve is that big we could had share. Luckily, my hubby helped out with the ribs. 

Overall, the services are very attentive. Whoever finished their food, the waiter or waitress will come to clear your plates and drinks. 

kith & kin @ Vantage Desiran, Tanjung Tokong, Penang.

 Few days ago, my friend and I decided to drop by Kith & Kin for lunch since she is going to pick up something from the same building as well. 

I never stopped by during day time at Vantage Desiran. Most of the time, I will only drop by at night. On that day, it is packed with cars but still managed to get a car park in front and for the time being the parking is free.

It's quite a good idea to serve each table with a bottle of water. Instead of asking for refill or asking for some extra water.

Since we opt for the add on, our soup of the day is mushroom soup. It is also served with croutons.

Mushroom Burger - RM16.90

 My friend opt for the mushroom burger. It is served with burger bun and top with portobello mushroom, sauted with assorted mushroom, wild rockets and sauce. It came with some fries as well. Mushroom lover can opt for a try! 

 Chicken Schnitzel - RM15.90

After browsing through the menu, I saw Chicken Schnitzel is on the menu. Then my friend already knew that I will order this to try. The reason behind this is because we always go for chicken schnitzel during our high school days. Therefore, whenever we came across Chicken Schnitzel, our memories flash back.

Well, this chicken schnitzel of course is different from what we always had before and the outlook is different too. kith & kin has its own version of chicken schnitzel. It is very crispy at the outer part and juicy and tender within. It served with some salads and fries. And not to forget their sauce as well.

FoOd PaRaDiSe verdict:

kith & kin just open this month and I believed that they still have room for improvement. The place is very big. Services are good and very attentive. And for parents with children, this is one of the places where children have a corner to play and please make sure that all parents/guardians obey their rules and keep the place clean. 

Some drawback for us during our visit - its a bit hot for us as we were locate to sit near to the play area. Since we are at the corner table, therefore the air condition was not switched on. Perhaps, they shall gather everyone in the other side during lunch time so that they will have some cool environment while dine in.

Apart from that, their add on are value for money. Our total bill add up to be RM54.60.

Coc Spoof Burger @ Jalan Lembah Permai, Tanjung Bungah, Penang.

During a rainy day last week, we stopped by this Coc Spoof Burger stall which barely open for about a month only but their business is very good. When we arrived at the stall, there are few people waiting for their burger to take away and also some of the customers waiting patiently at their tables.

This burger actually operated by a happy family. Three brothers and their mother. Have a nice chat with the stall owner. Above photo was the two brothers at the stall when we were dinning in. They are very friendly.

Burger that we savour:

Green Goblin Burger - RM6
This burger consists of their home made patties, cheese and chili sauce. Hubby had this. He gobbled it so fast yet I just want to start mine. And for hubby, I think he will need to order Level 5 king burger which means 5 levels of chicken patties and 5 levels of cheese. As after he finished the burger he told us that he is still hungry.

Lady Archer Burger - RM6
At first, I am not sure hubby order this lady archer burger for me. But after the first bite, I knew it because of the chili sauce. If not I think my princess would love the pink colour bun. It has the same chicken patties and cheese plus chili sauce. Haha......

Barbarian Cheese Burger - RM6
This use the normal bun with chicken patties, tomatoes sauce and extra cheese. Extra cheese which suits my princess for the time being. As she loves cheese very much. hahahha.......

FoOd PaRaDiSe verdict:

We enjoyed their burger very much. Their chicken patties are very tender and juicy. The bun itself is very soft. The chicken patties make by themselves. They are telling us that if you take beef then must try their beef burger patties. Which they claimed that it is very tender and juicy. Unfortunately we are not taking beef but if you do, please give it a try as they highly recommend it. 

Furthermore they have Level 5 King Burger and Level 10 King Burger. We might have a try of their Level 5 King Burger in our next visit.

The Hillside Cafe Bar and Restaurant @ Hillside, Penang.

During a rainy morning, we decided to step into this cafe for our late breakfast cum lunch. You can park your car in front of the restaurant but during our visit its all fully occupied so we have to park opposite the road. 

Service was very fast and efficient. We were welcome by the waitress and chose our favour table and seated. Then we were being told that they served breakfast and lunch from the menu. So we browsed through the menu for sometime and proceed with our orders.

After order our food, I just have the chance to look around the environment of the cafe. It was quite a nice place. Cosy I would said with the soft music played all the time during our dining there. Both my gal and I quite enjoy it. We felt its quite relaxing. Apart from that both side of their walls of hang lots of photos that took from Siem Reap and China. Which recall our Siem Reap two years back.

While waiting for the food being served, you could read some magazines provided by the cafe. There also have free wifi if you need it.

We ordered cappuccino and flat white as our drink. 

The Works - RM22.50

Basically it's a big breakfast to me. This is my gal meal. She has been pestering me for a home cooked western breaky for quite some time but still did not have the chance to make her favourite so I asked her to try The Works which consisted of two sunny eggs, strip of bacon, a toast bread, baked beans, sausages, grilled tomatoes and butter.

Half way through her meal, she is like Ms. Santa, giving away some food for hubby and me. She told us that this was a big breakfast and she was too full! 

Cafe Burger - RM16

Hubby opted for the cafe pork burger. It served with the side dish like fries, tomato sauce and salad. 

Hubby commented that the pork burger is tender and juicy. 

Breakfast Bap - RM 15.50

Basically it is a toasted English muffins with bacon, lettuce, tomatoes and sauces served with salad on the side. Love the toasted muffins. Very crunchy toast. That goes well with the ingredients inside.

FoOd PaRaDiSe verdict: I would said this is another choice to choose while dinning in Penang International Airport. I was highly recommend by a friend to try their Salted Caramel Macchiato. For me, it's something different. As for my hubby, he still preferred the normal coffee. Hahhahahaa........ As for the food vice, their aglio olio is something different from others. Worth to try if you are adventured person. I prefer the grilled chicken burger over the sandwich as it is a bit too sweet for my liking. However, I enjoyed the simple salads and mashed potatoes though. Something to balance the sweetness from the chicken sandwich.

Burger Most Wanted

Nowadays you will see that there are more and more foods around Jalan Sungai Ara 1. Especially Thursday night. You will see many people queue up for the burgers. They cooked their burgers at the back of their small truck. 

One Thursday night I happened to have early dinner that night. And tummy started to send signal to me around nine. Was telling hubby about it and he decided to head out to get some snack for us. (No wonder I can't lose weight!)

Hubby stop by Jalan Sungai Ara 1 to see if anything to get. As usually, there are many stalls there. Ranging from Indian foods, curry mee, soya bean drinks, buns and dim sum, fried chicken and etc.........

At the end, he stopped by the "Burger Most Wanted" stall and order - Chicken Burger and Pork burger.

Following were the order from my hubby:

He ordered: 

1. Pork Burger with Japanese S&S sauce and add egg + bacon

2. Chicken Burger with bbq sauce and add egg + bacon

Chicken Burger with BBQ sauce + egg + bacon

 Pork Burger with Japanese S&S sauce + egg + bacon

Burger Most Wanted claimed that they make their own recipe bun - black or white, sauces and potato salads.

FoOd PaRaDiSe verdict: I prefer the pork burger than the chicken burger. It is very tender than chicken burgers.  Love their combination of vegetables. For me more vegetables would be great as hubby add on bacon in the burgers. Sauces I also prefer the Japanese S&S sauce as BBQ sauce quite normal for me. Breads were soft and nice. Overall, it is a nice try! But you prepared to wait for quite sometime as there are too many people queue up for this burgers.

Starter - Grilled Prawn with Caviar Cream and Salad Roll

I enjoyed the starter very much. Basically, it has two pieces of grilled prawn top with caviar and cream. The bottom of the grilled prawn is presented with thinly slice of mango. The salad roll is wrap with thinly slice of cucumber. The sauces use for decoration of the plate are mustard with honey and Thai chilli sauce. 

As a mango lovers, I love this starter.

Main Course - Yin and Yang Beef Tenderloin 

Grilled beef tenderloin with black and white Sauce.

OR 

White Pan-fried fillet Seabass 

Grilled Seabass with Bechamel Sauce.

The main course is quite a big portion for me. Quite full after finishing it. Apart from the grilled sea bass, it came with the dice potato and some  thinly slice mangoes, onion and chilies. 

Dessert - Avocado Chocolate Trifle 

Although I am full. But desserts are always irresistible. Hahaha........ This desserts are quite special. It is covered with roasted pistachio and chocolate for the first layer then the avocado cream layer, follow by a layer of chocolate layer and end with cream layer. It is quite rich but I love it.

Drinks - Coffee/Tea or Iced Lemon tea  (Free Refill) 

If you order the Father's Day set menu, you can have free refill of either coffee/Tea or Iced Lemon Tea.

Not only that, you can also order Caffe Latte or Cappuccino (Free Refill) as well.

FoOd PaRaDiSe verdict: This set lunch is worth for value and they are very generous in term of the food portions that they given. Not to forget, free refill of drinks.

MEETING ROOM

They have a meeting rooms @ ZEST BAR CAFE. If you would like to hold a meeting or some function you can come over to ZEST BAR CAFE. The meeting room does not need any booking fees at all. What you need to do is just need to dine in @ ZEST BAR CAFE. Furthermore, there will be no extra charges if you need to use the white board or projector. It is advised that you give them a call if you need to use the meeting room to avoid any disappointment.

CAR PARKING SERVICES

They will be having jockey parking services start from 1st July 2014. They will park the car for you 250-300 metre away from their premises and after you finish your meal, they will provide a mini van sent you back to their parking lots. In the meantime, they have about 10 car park spaces in front of the hotel and 10 car park spaces at the back via Lebuh Naning.
