Snow Pear with Dried Fritillaria (川贝雪梨)

Few months ago, my sister in law bought some Dried Fritillaria from overseas. We were told that Fritillaria  (川贝) are efficacy on moistening lung and ease cough. My sister in law told us to cook it with snow pear. Since my daughter and I were down with cough, we decided to give this a try!
Basically it was very easy to prepared. If you got all the ingredients in hand, you can savour this desserts in less than an hour.
Ingredients:
2 large snow pears (I cut it into pieces)
4 Red Dates
Some Rock Sugar
Some Dried Fritillaria (Not too many)
Water (Suitable amount that cover all the ingredients)

Method:
1. Wash the snow pears and peel off the pears and cut into pieces. In my case I cut into 8 pieces.
2. Then wash the red dates and dried Fritillaria.
3.Put all the ingredients into a pot filled with water. Don't forget the rock sugar as well.
4. Boiled for 30 minutes in medium heat. Served Hot.
Note: It is actually best if you cook it in double boiler way.
Put all ingredients into a pot filled with water.

Actually Fritillaria is also good in nourishing lung and moistening lung. So if you are not down with coughing, you still can have this dessert. You can cook this to all your family members.

Eté Café @ Lebuh Carnarvon

During one Saturday morning in December 2013, we went down to town to settle something. After everything settle, we decided to find a coffee shop to sit down and catch up with one of my friends that back from overseas.

Since we were just nearby Lebuh Carnarvon, we chose to have some snacks and coffee @ Eté Café. I have seen this cafe from ASTRO - 寫食人生 (Tasteful Life). Basically, this shop is operated by the Taiwanese couple. They learnt their skills from Le Cordon Blue Cooking School. This cafe offers freshly brewed coffee and also cakes and pastry.
Following were the coffee and cakes/pastry/desserts that we ordered for our visit to this shop:
All their coffee were served without sugar nor milk. It just the original tastes of the coffee.

 Golden Mandheling "PAWANI"
Classic Brazil Cerrado TOP
Ice Drip Coffee - RM15
I chose ice drip coffee for a try. Since it's a hot sunny day, a cup of ice drip coffee is just perfect to cheer my day!
 Cheese Raspberry Cake
Out of the three cakes/desserts/pastry, my gal favourites go to this cheese raspberry cake.
 Mille Feuille

Creme Brulee

We were told to save this creme brulee for the coffee. As the coffee does not added any sugar. If you go together with the coffee. It is just a perfect match.

Overall, it's another nice shop to stop by for a cup of coffee. But it is just a very small shop without air condition.

When you mention LOKE THYE KEE to Penangties, I am sure majority of the people will know about this place. It was very popular restaurant which served traditional Hainamese Chinese and Western Cuisines such as Curry Kapitan, Choon Piah and Chicken Chop in the past.
Before I visited this restaurant, I google about this place and know about some of the background of the restaurant itself. LOKE THYE KEE originated as LOKE HAI KEE in 1919 by brothers LOY LOK BOON AND LOY KOK DAI. The restaurant name LOKE THYE KEE which in Hainamese means “House of Happiniess”, which was very popular venue for birthday celebration, wedding reception and even for match making arrangements. The original owner of the LOKE THYE KEE building was owned by a local businessman and philanthropist Khoo Sian Ewe. He built the iconic ship – inspired building and rent to the Loy family till 1996. The original owner then sold the building and surrounding properties to a land developer. The current owner acquires the building in the mid 2000’s and its restoration completed in 2012. You can learn more about the history and restoration of LOKE THYE KEE @ http://lokethyekee.weebly.com/

Overall, the buffet have varieties of choice to choose from. For the appertiser section, I like the mango salad, spicy fish salad, shredded chicken salads. As for the main course section, braised lamb were quite delicious but it was a bit too salty for my liking. As for the duck with yam, I like the yam very much.
