Dragon - i Restaurant Sdn. Bhd @ Gurney Plaza, Penang.

It's been quite a while that we did not drop by Dragon-i. Since we need to run some errands @ Gurney Plaza, we decided to get dinner there.
Actually this is the first time we had Dragon-i @ Gurney Plaza.

Food that we savour:

Braised Peanuts - RM2/plate
四喜烤䴲 - RM10
This is one of the cold dishes that we ordered. We love it very much. Really missed our month long holiday in China few years back. We get to try different types of Chinese cuisine.
镇江烤肋骨 - RM35
The spare ribs is very tender and the sauce is very appetising.
蒜香粉皮肉 - RM18
This is another favourite. Love the thin noodles that came with it. The pork slice itself is very tender and great in flavours.
四川酸菜鱼片 - RM38
Although its stated as schezuan style of cooking but it is not too spicy for me. Have tried more spicier schezuan food than this.
The fish slice is very smooth but it is not my favourite dish. I still prefer the cold dish.
雙菇木耳炒芥兰 - RM28
上海小笼包 - RM11.50
Kinda miss the Shanghai dumpling that we savour back in Shanghai. This dumpling is still delicious.

Beverages that we ordered:

自制豆浆- RM4.50
菊花杞子 - RM10/ Tea pot

FoOd PaRaDiSe verdict:

Overall, the food is still maintaining their flavours. When we missed food from China, this would be one of our choices restaurant to dine in.
The services were very attentive. We were well taking care during our visit.

FOOD that we savour

The last time I blog about this place was back in 2012. You can view my review here. After 3 years and here we are the same people and same place we had our gathering. We chose this place as our gathering as it is wheelchair friendly. As one  of our guests is assessing with wheelchair. Furthermore they have  wide parking spaces.
We have done the booking with the restaurant 2 days earlier. We want something special and we don't want course meal although we have 10 pax dinning. So they came out with the following dishes:
Maple Palace Restaurant Penang

Maple Palace Restaurant Penang
龙虾什果沙律伴香蕉带子卷
Lobster Salad with Banana Scallop Roll
Every guest was happy with this dish. The roll itself consisted of the scallop, banana and seaweed. Which was quiet a nice combination. And the middle of the platter is served with the lobster salad - which consist of lobster meat and assorted fruits that cut into cube sizes.
Maple Palace Restaurant Penang

Maple Palace Restaurant Penang
深海龙趸炖鲍翅
Double-boiled Superior Shark’s fin Soup with Giant Grouper and Dried Scallop
Our guests found it interesting that the shark's fin soup was served with the grouper.
Maple Palace Restaurant Penang
蚝皇澳洲鲍甫扣海参蚝士时蔬
Braised Slice Australia Abalone with Sea Cucumber & Dried Oyster
Guests love the sauces from this dish. Sea cucumber and abalone slices were not too hard. It is just nice.
Maple Palace Restaurant Penang
港式顶抽蒸生猛笋壳
Steamed Fresh Marble Goby Fish with Superior Soya Sauce
The fish was very fresh and nice.
Maple Palace Restaurant Penang
乳猪腊味糯米饭
Roasted Suckling Piglet with Preserved Waxed Meat Rice
This dish is something special. The upper level is roasted sucking piglet and below level is the preserved waxed meat rice. The roasted suckling piglet is very crunchy and tender. Whereas the preserved wax meat rice is also tastes very good. If you have not tried this before you can give it a try!
Maple Palace Restaurant Penang
Deep Fried Mantou
This is indeed very nice. The outer layer of the mantou is very crunchy. It was served together with the roasted suckling piglet with preserved waxed meat rice.
Maple Palace Restaurant Penang
万星浦冻滋润雪蛤
Chilled Lemon Grass Jelly with Hashima Jelly
Last dishes for this meal is our dessert. It is chilled lemon grass jelly with hashima jelly. Quiet a refreshing wrap up for the meal.

Maple Palace @ Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah, Penang.

On the 6th day of CNY, we invited our VIP for lunch. This year we chose to dine in

Maple Palace Sdn Bhd

47 Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah

10500 Penang, Malaysia.

Tel: 04 – 2279690

We placed our booking 2 days beforehand. And we were surprised that we had a room for ourselves. We were satisfied with the services provided for us. We had a waitress always by our side to serve us.

Following were the 8 course meals that we had for our lunch:

金龙顺景捞鱼生

Prosperity Salmon Yee Sang

I am not very keen of having yee sang. But yee sang is a very popular dishes during CNY. And my gal is having fun when everyone mixed yee sang together.

鸿运大展金钱翅

Braised Shark's Fin with Dried Scallop and Crab Meat

发财龙岡卤水鸭

Braised Duck with Chinese Herbs and Yam

The waitress told me that this is one of their popular dishes in the restaurant. The braised duck is very tender and juicy. My gal loves it very much.

珠光宝气盆菜

Auspicious Abalone Sea Food Treasure Phoon Choy

When this dish being served, everyone puzzled and wonder whether we can finish all the foods. This phoon choy is different from the normal phoon choy. As in this phoon choy, there is no fatty pork. It is more towards seafood.

Inside the Phoon Choy, it consists of prawn, fish maw, sea cucumber, scallop, mushroom, abalone, vegetables, yam and radish. I like the radish very much. It has the sweetness and the radish is not very soft.

普寧豆酱蒸石斑

Steamed Garoupa with "Pu-Ning" Soya Bean Sauce

My MIL loves the “Pu-Ning” bean sauce. It has the combination of spiciness, saltiness and sweetness. The steamed garoupa is very fresh. Everyone enjoyed the freshness of the fish. Even my gal loves it very much. She kept telling us that the fish is very nice.

如意吉祥聚满堂

Maple Palace Specialty Baked Scallop w/ Cheese and Emiko Salad Prawn

We love the emiko salad prawn very much. As for the baked scallop with cheese, most of the elderly cannot take it. It is because of the cheese aroma. They cannot take it but they enjoyed the salad prawn very much.

金瓜芋香腊味饭

Fried-rice with Diced Preserved Meat and Pumpkin Yam

This is the last two dishes being served. Everyone thought that we will not able to finish it since it is fried rice. But the elderly likes it very much. As inside the fried rice there are diced preserved meat, pumpkin and yam. But I found that the fried rice is a bit too salty for my liking.

满堂添喜庆团圆

Sweetened Longan with Gingko Nuts and Wai San

Grandma 95th Birthday Celebration @ Jade Garden, Sungai Petani, Kedah ~ Part 1

Few months back, it was hubby grandma's 95th birthday. Most of the family members were busy doing all the preparation for the grand celebration. Guess from overseas flocking in and the outstation guests came. It was very busy day. But it was an enjoyable night.
There are many activities went on for the night such as line dancing performance, belly dancing, singing performance, lucky draw and cake cutting ceremony. ok, back to the foods that we had for the night:
Birthday Noodles
Usually for the start we had the birthday bun for the start but this year, they start with the birthday noodles. This year the birthday noodles was prepared with soup and accompanied with vegetables, prawns, chicken and pork slice, chillies slice and deep fried shallots.
The soup base is nice and sweet. And the noodles has the springy textures, Everyone at my tables loves it very much.
Birthday Bun
We kinda love the birthday bun in this restaurant. It was soft and the lotus paste inside the birthday bun was not too sweet. My gal was the one that always wants more of this bun. ^0^
5 Different Hot Plates
This year we had something different. As previously we had the combination of hot and cold dishes. This year they ordered 5 different types of hot dishes which including steamed egg custard topped with crab meat, BBQ stuffed chicken wings, deep fried prawn, fish and meat paste cake and stuffed crab stick, salted egg and fish paste wrap with bean sheet.
Shark Fin Soups
Actually we want them to do the other kind of shark fin soups which accompanied with the bean sprouts but we were told that we had around 70 tables, they are afraid that they have no man power to do so for us. So we end up with this shark fin soups. Which is also very nice and tasty.
Suckling Pig and Deep Fried Chicken with Plum Sauce
The suckling pig is very crunchy and it is accompanied with the steam bun. My gal can't resist the steam bun and she ate most of the steam bun. As for the adults in our table enjoyed the crispiness of the suckling pig. The deep fried chicken with plum sauce is nice too.
Steam Promfret with Teochew Style
The promfret was supply by ourselves to the restaurant. It is very fresh. Our Aussie guest was asking us what kind of fish is this. They love the textures of the fish and love it very much.
Combination of broccoli, braised sea cucumber, fish maw and "Fah Gao"
Not many people knew how to consume the above dishes. Some only took broccoli. But all these are one of my favourite foods. ^0^ And love the way they cook it. Even our Aussie guests try everything. And they love the textures and tastes of the braised sea cucumbers.
Black Pepper Prawn
The prawn was also supply by us to the restaurant. But this time round the prawn that we ordered was a bit smaller than expected.
Pumpkin with Black Sesame Tang Yuen
This is the last dishes that we had before we wrap up for the day. This year, they ordered pumpkin with black sesame tang yuen. The pumpkin soup was very smooth and the sweetness was just right. However, I feel that the tang yuen skin is a bit too thick. If they could adjust the thickness of the tang yuen skin, then it would be perfect.
Venue took place in
Jade Garden Seafood Restaurant,
202-209 Taman Ria Jaya 08000, Sungai Petani, Kedah.
Tel: 04 - 4412395, 4413548 & 4412828

Jade Blossom Restaurant

Since today is the eve of Chinese New Year 2009, I would like to wish my readers, friends and families,
"Happy and Prosperous Chinese New Year"
Today, I would like to share with you the dinner that we had @ Jade Blossom Restaurant for PS farewell during November 2008. lol
Location: 1-1-22 Krystal Point 2, Bayan Lepas, Penang.
Tel: 04-6438064
First, we go for some soup....... and the soup of the night is

Winter Melon Soup
The soup tastes very nice. The soup consists of winter melon, red dates, spare ribs.........

Bamboo Rice
Hubby insist us to try their bamboo rice as he tried that b4. So we order one each to try it out.

Sauce for the bamboo rice
You have to put some of this sauce to go with the bamboo rice. As for the tastes of the bamboo rice, I think nothing special. It is something like claypot rice that is served in a bowl rather than claypot.
Deep Fried Fish

Broccoli with scallops, prawns and fresh fish slice
It is a very nice dish. The scallops, prawns and fish slice is very fresh. and the broccoli tastes perfect as some tend to over cooked it. lol
Stir fry Ostrich Meat with black pepper
The ostrich meat is very tender.
Next, hubby order ........... "Jiang Su" Duck
Shredded duck in the process
After the waitress shredded the duck
Pancake skin for shredded duck
Cucumber
Spring onion
Sauce
Following are the step by step of how hubby takes his Jiang Su duck:
Step 1 : Put a piece of pancake skin on a plate
Step 2: Brush some sauce on top of the pancake

Step 3: Put some spring Onion, cucumber and shredded duck

Step 4 : Wrap it together....... and start eating it....... lol
After our dinner, hubby suggests us to try "Yam Desserts" as he tried it b4. So we ordered one plate to share and try.
Yam desserts
We were told that this desserts is free for us as it is the last plate for the day. lol The desserts is actually a well blended yam and I think they add in coconut milk as well and serve with some gingkos. Hubby asked them not to add any sugar for the dessert as he like it that way but PS and me prefer to have a bit of sugar that will make it more fabulous. lol
