YI XIANG BAK KUT TEH @ Macalister Road, Penang

Actually, I have lots and tons of blog posts that always kept under my draft folder which I have no time do it. As I have been MIA for few months. ^-^
Well, hubby been wanted to try out this bak kut teh for a long long time and I did not have the chance to accompany him there as past few months was really hectic months for me. Too many works to be done. So during one outing, we decided to try it out.
Each time we passed the shop we can see that there were many people patronise this shop. When the shop starts operating I saw many coffee shops advertise about YI XIANG BAK KUT TEH.
Come lets me bring you to see, what we had for dinner........
The Big menu of YI XIANG BAK KUT TEH
Choices are listed inside the shops
More choices........
Hot Chinese Tea
We ordered Chinese tea to go with our bak kut teh.
Following are our bak kut teh order. And we are not aware that they are served in the small bowl each. We thought it was the same claypot bak kut teh that we always had. ^-^ And we ordered so many things that filled up the tables........
PAI GU (Spare Ribs)
This PAI GU was served up above a burner. Which will keep the foods hot. And the PAI GU is soft and tender. My gal was reluctant to have pork with tough textures due to her teeth going to fall off. And she enjoys it very much due to the textures.

Feng Chang
The textures of feng chang is tender as well.

Golden Mushroom
This is one of my gal favourites foods. I like the way the golden mushroom immersed with the soup. It brings out another kind of flavours.
Meat Ball
The meat ball was alright and most of the time, when we had bak kut teh, the meat ball will be the first one to finish. As my gal will be the one who search for meat ball. But she rather picky to some of the meat ball. Not all meat ball she will love. ^-^

Ka Geng

Saw this in the menu. And it was hardly get from a bak kut teh shops. So both hubby and I decided to order this for a try. Well, it tastes nice. It has the QQ textures and not too hard either. Just fine for us.

Da Gu

Wow.... when this arrived on our table. My gals exclaimed: "Wow.......look at the size of this, so big!". And we have to "shhh........" to her. As some patrons were looking at us. The pork is very tender and some with the fats part can melt in your mouth. But it's kinda rich after consume some of them. ^-^

Dou Ya
Dou Ya is in mandarin. Which means bean sprout. Hubby comments that the bean sprout is not immersed in the boiling water enough time. As some of them still raw. ^-^

Yu Cha Kuih

Tao Kee
Add on this thought that it will immersed in a big pot of soup. But lucky still can immersed in the small bowl. And tastes were nice.

White Rice
Overall, it was a new kind of experience of us. New way of bak kut teh feast.
If you like a very thick soup base type of bak kut teh, you might love this. And all the soup base was very thick. If you like to have watery soup base of bak kut teh, you might not enjoying this like my hubby. As he loves having soup. ^-^ The total damage to the bill was bit too expensive from the ordinary bak kut teh. ^-^

YENG KENG HOTEL @ Chulia Street, Penang (Food Review)

Few weeks ago, I stepped into Yeng Keng Hotel for "Hainamese Food Feast" with a bunch of friends to catch up and also do some food review. And the following dishes are foods that we were having...........

Spring Roll
The spring rolls consist of crab meat, chicken meat, prawn, black mushroom, yam bean, carrot and onion. It was then stir fry with sauces such as oyster sauce, Lea & Perrines, A1, tomato and HP sauces. The ingredients uses are all in good quality and as well as the sauces.
The price for this spring roll is RM12.00 (per portion of 2 pcs) / RM24.00 for 4pcs. We had the 4pcs portion for our dinner.
It tastes crunchy at the outer part and juicy inside the spring roll.

Hainamese Mushroom Soup - RM10.00 (per portion for one person) / RM45.00 for big bowl serving of 10 persons
This is my first time having this hainamese mushroom soup. This soup contains of button mushroom, livers, gizzards, fermented black bean, chicken, glass noodles and spring onions. When I have the first sip pf the soup, I tasted the strong aroma of fermented black bean. If you like fermented black bean aroma, you will love this.
We had the big bowl serving for dinner.

Yeng Keng Chicken Chop - RM15.00 (per portion for one person) / RM30.00 for serving of 10 persons
I have tried numerous hainamese chicken chop before. This chicken chop in Yeng Keng consist of Chicken Chop with topping of tomato, carrot, cucumber, green pea, sweet corn, onion and button mushroom. It came with french fries and salads too.
I personally think that the outer part of the chicken chop is a bit salty. However, the chicken is very tender.

Grilled fish with butter sauce -  RM18.00 (per portion for one person) / RM36.00 for serving of 10 persons
The grilled fish with butter that we had is dory fish which imported from Vietnam. Carpers was used on top of the fish. It also came with sauteed potatoes. Overall, it tastes nice but still find the outer layer of the grilled fish a bit salty for my tastes. ^-^ Oh..... I like the potatoes side dish.

Braised Lamb Shank - RM35.00 (per portion for one person) / RM70.00 for serving of 10 persons
The braised lamb shank in Yeng Keng Hotel came with spaghetti. They uses No.11 Le Fonte spaghetti. The spaghetti is cooked to perfection to my liking. Not too soft. And the braised lamb is very tender as well. It comes with carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and roast potatoes. And it's stands out the braised lamb shank. ^-^

Chicken Pie - RM25.00 (per portion for 3 – 5 persons) / RM35.00 for serving of 10 persons (extra filling)
hmm..... this is the first time that I saw the chicken pie wet version. This chicken pie consists of chicken, button mushroom, egg, carrot, sweet corn, onion and black mushroom. It's in fact many ingredients in there as we are having the 10 persons serving.
***** Please note that you need to 24 hours PRE- ORDER this Chicken Pie *****

Ar Or (Braised Duck with Yam) - RM50.00 (half duck) / RM85.00 (whole duck)
Are you fans of  braised duck with yams? You have to give this a try. The yam and the braised duck are very tender. It's easy to consume. For our dinner, we had half duck.
***** Please note that you need to PRE- ORDER this Braised Duck with Yam *****

Inchi Kabin  - RM30 for whole chicken
I found that this is best to go with some beers...... chicken was tender in the interior. This is one of the popular dishes in Yeng Keng Hotel.

Curry Tumis Promfret (Tau Teh Fish) ~ RM100.00 – RM120.00 (Depending on market price)
Usually when we had curry tumis fish. We will have watery types of curry. For Yeng Keng Hotel, theirs are rather thicker than normal. This is the first time that I  had curry tumis in thicker version. There are some debates that some likes dry and some likes wet. ^-^ However, I found that both have it's own flavours to stand out. The fish that we had was promfret for the night. You can choose the different kind of fish available. We were told that the best was stingray. ^-^
The fish for the night was very fresh and cook to it's perfection. Not too dry. Just perfect. If you asked me whether it's spicy? Well, for me, it's still in acceptable range. But for one of my friends, he was sweating rapidly after he consume it. ^-^
***** Please note that you need to PRE- ORDER this Curry Tumis *****

Bomb Alaska ~  RM20.00 per serving (Serves 4 person)
Wow..... to wrap up our dinner. We had desserts........ yippee..... desserts...... that's what most ladies love. ^-^
Have you ever heard of Bomb Alaska? Well, some of you might have and some youngest generation might not even knew it. For me, this is my first time ever heard of it. For those who knows and searching for the Penang Club Bomb Alaska...... don't wait now...... pop into Yeng Keng Hotel to try this out. As the chef was from Penang Club. ^-^
The bomb Alaska is mainly consist of butter cake with cocktail fruits, 4 scoops of ice cream and covered with egg souffle and flambeed with rum.
I found it interesting however, if the butter cake can be more moist, then it would be wonderful. ^-^
***** Please note that BOMB ALASKA is only available for dinner*****

Langkawi Nature Discovery Tour ~ Day Trip to Langkawi ex Penang Part II

This is the continuing post of Langkawi. After our lunch, we proceed to Oriental Village for Langkawi Cable Car. It shower a little while we were on our way to Oriental Village. We were told that if it's rain or too windy, we were not allowed to travel up the hill by cable cars.
Upon arrival to Oriental Village, we have to hand in our identification to our tour guide to purchase tickets for the cable rides. So we have the opportunity to shop and look around the Oriental Village. After a while, we were told by our tour guide that it was too windy and we were not allowed to go up to the hills. Everyone was kinda down but it was the regulation and we should obey.
I myself went up the hill before few years ago and it was such a nice place to look at the beautiful view. If you in the top station, it is about 708M above sea level. You can stop in the middle station as well.
If you need more information about Langkawi Cable Car, you can have a look of this link.
There were many duckling and fishes inside the pond. And I remembered that my daugther was enjoying feeding the rabbit in the mini zoo. After strolling, we say goodbye to this place and proceed to our next destination ~ KILIM KARST GEOFOREST PARK.
KILIM KARST GEOFOREST PARK
We waited for a while to hop into a boat above. This boat trip will bring you to see the "NATURE" green environment. It was quite a lots of fun for you if you like nature environment a lot. I think it would be thrilled for my daughter if she hop on the boat this boat trip. ^-^
Along the way to the FISH FARM
Other boats to and fro from the Jetty
FISH FARM
We stopped at the fish farm to have a look of the fishes. And we were explained by the fish farm staff the nature of the fishes. There were also some fishes feeding. You can try it out if you dare. Photos above are some visitors feeding the STINGRAY. ^-^
Next, we went to the GUA KELAWAR for bat seeing. Inside the cave, you were prohibit to use flash. It's not good for the bats and hope that everyone will obey the rule. ^-^ So that's the best shot i can get inside the caves.
Next........ we went for eagle watching........
Eagles......
More eagles.......
And more.........
After eagles watching, we went to our last stop, that's UNDERWATER WORLD.
UNDERWATER WORLD
This would be fun for those who love animals. There are many sections in there. Such as Fresh Water and Marine Life, Tropical Rain forest Sub- Antarctic Section and .........

Some photos inside Underwater World
We were lucky that we have the chance to view the SEALS feeding & presentation performance. And it was fantastic. Please be aware of the shows time.
