FOOD that we savour

The last time I blog about this place was back in 2012. You can view my review here. After 3 years and here we are the same people and same place we had our gathering. We chose this place as our gathering as it is wheelchair friendly. As one  of our guests is assessing with wheelchair. Furthermore they have  wide parking spaces.
We have done the booking with the restaurant 2 days earlier. We want something special and we don't want course meal although we have 10 pax dinning. So they came out with the following dishes:
Maple Palace Restaurant Penang

Maple Palace Restaurant Penang
龙虾什果沙律伴香蕉带子卷
Lobster Salad with Banana Scallop Roll
Every guest was happy with this dish. The roll itself consisted of the scallop, banana and seaweed. Which was quiet a nice combination. And the middle of the platter is served with the lobster salad - which consist of lobster meat and assorted fruits that cut into cube sizes.

Maple Palace Restaurant Penang
Deep Fried Mantou
This is indeed very nice. The outer layer of the mantou is very crunchy. It was served together with the roasted suckling piglet with preserved waxed meat rice.

Last dishes for this meal is our dessert. It is chilled lemon grass jelly with hashima jelly. Quiet a refreshing wrap up for the meal.

Wang Chao Chinese Cuisine @ Pekaka Square, Penang

Last month, during one outing for dinner, we decided to head to

Wang Chao Chinese Cuisine
Location: 2-G-2, Pekaka Square, Lebuh Pekaka 1 Sungai 2, 11700 Gelugor, Penang.
Tel: 04 - 6571118
SMS: 016-5577268
It's been quite sometime that I did not dine into this place. And I just recalled that I never blog about this place before. So we decided to go back and do some review about this place.
After browse through the menu, we decided to order some soup for a starter. But we were told most of the soup has been sold out. So at last we ordered the last bowl of
Stewed "Yeo Som" Chicken Soup ~ RM5 per bowl
Since this is the last bowl of stewed soup. So we just ordered one of this and share among 3 of us. And we were lucky that we did not order more as my gal cannot stand the "Yeo Som" aroma. But for hubby and I, we were enjoying this bowl of chicken soup. And there are lots of chicken in this bowl of stewed yeo com chicken soup. For RM5, it is really worth for value and also the quality. ^-^
Stir Fry Long Beans ~ RM8
We always will order some greens for our dinner. And hubby decided to order stir fry long beans since my gal loves long beans and also french beans very much. The vegetables are deep fried before and stir fry with some mince pork and dried shrimp. we enjoyed this plate of vegetables very much. ^-^
Steam Scallops ~ RM15
Hubby also ordered some scallops for my gal. As my gal loves scallops very much. Perhaps due to the textures of the scallops so she falls in loves with scallops since she is small. There are stir fry version of scallop too. But hubby decided to go for steam instead. And the scallops came out to be nice.
Clay pot Sea Cucumber and Seafood ~ RM18
This is one of the dishes reminds me about new year. As normally during Chinese New Year, you will see this type of dish in the restaurant menu. Hubby spotted this dish and feels like having it. So he ordered it for us to try. And with the value of money and also the quantity amount of the sea cucumbers, abalones, mushrooms and "Fa Chai", we reckon that it is quite a nice dish to order. Furthermore, it is not salty at all. ^-^
Beijing Crispy Chicken ~ RM8
Hubby was so attracted by the name of the chicken. So he ordered this to try. The Beijing Chicken is very crispy and tender inside. Which is quite a nice dish to order.
Overall, we enjoyed the foods being served in this restaurant. And since we were too full with all the foods that we ordered. We did not get the chance to try out their desserts. Their service are great and very attentive. While I am busy capturing the dishes, the waiter and waitress there were so helpful and helping me to move the new dish to my front for easy capturing the dish. I was so thrilled for their attentiveness. ^-^ The total bill came out to be RM64.10 including drinks and foods.
They also have lots of Chinese New Year menu to choose from RM178 - RM518 . Pop over to their website and check it out. If you like to try Poon Choy, they also have some other packages to choose from.
*****There are no government tax and service charge by Wang Chao Chinese Cuisine.*****

Red Bali Seafood Restaurant Sdn Bhd @ Ayer Itam, Penang

Wonder what am I having for this Mother's day? Yes.... you got it right it's Mother's day meal that I am going to blog about it after 3 months. ^-^ As my draft folder is piling up and i'm trying my best to post as much as possible. Since it's Mother's Day, we decide to have something simple. And we did not do any booking, so we went out for an early dinner without knowing where is our destination and in the last minute, hubby told us, we go to
Red Bali Seafood
Huh? both my gal and I was wondering where is daddy going to bring us? Then hubby told us that will bring you to eat something nice.
ok..... then we just leave it with his decision.
Location: 288E-1-13 Jalan Thean Teik, Fortune Court, Ayer Itam, Penang.
Tel: 04 - 8297369, Kuan 016-4881128, Sim 0174771910
Once we were seated, hubby rush to the counter for ordering as we can see that most of the table are occupied and also most of the tables are reserves. Since it's mother's day, we knew that it will be lots of people flocking in. So we better get our order first. ^-^
Grilled Prawn with special sauce ~ Rm18
Prawn is one of my favorite foods. So hubby ordered this for me.
The prawns are fresh and also the sauces that go with the prawn are nice.
Claypot Curry Fish ~ RM22
Hubby and my gal are on the "spicy" heat during that time. Every where they go, they would love to try "curry". And they enjoy their curry very much. Not over spicy as my gal still can handle it well as it has some hint of sourish. And the fish is fresh and juicy. But be warn, it's a very big bowl of claypot for only 3 of us. ^-^
Stir fry mini french beans ~ RM8
My gal enjoys this dish very much as the mini french beans that we had is very "young" and crunchy. I think most of this end up in my gal tummy.
Steam Garlic and chilies Scallops ~ Rm12
Hubby saw some scallops, so he ordered some as my gal loves scallops. When she is small, we always tell her that this is "fish ball" as when she is small she loves fish ball very much. So in order to let her have some scallops, we told her it's fish ball. ^-^ But when she gets older she will tell you that it is not fish ball, it is scallops. lol
The scallops is pretty normal. Nothing to shout about as you can find it in many other seafood outlets.
White Rice
Off course we are having some white rice to go with our dishes. My gal loves white rice very much. I think she had two bowl of rice that night as she would like to have some curry gravy to go with the rice.
Overall, their foods are nice and the price is very reasonable. I will certainly go back to try their other food choices. They have lot of varieties of foods to choose from.

Rou Gu Cha KiNG @ Queensbay Mall, Penang

It was raining yesterday evening and we decided to go Queensbay Mall to have our dinner since they have car park where we won't get wet.
Initially, our intention is not visiting Rou Gu Cha KiNG as we also did not realised there is a shop barely opened just for a week. They opened since last Monday. It's my gal who spotted this restaurant and told us all about it. And since we never tried their foods before, we decided to give it a try!
Rou Gu Cha KiNG
Some promotion set menu
Menu
Garlic Scallop ~ RM6.90
There are 4 garlic scallops in a plate. There are lots of garlic on top of the scallops as what the name called. hahhahahaa........ If you do not like garlic, please omit this.
Red Wine Chicken Rou Gu Cha (SET) ~ RM17.90
We ordered this to try. We ordered the one person set meal. It consists of red wine chicken rou gu cha, white rice,
bean sprout with oyster sauce, beancurd, "you char kway"
and tea.
We were fascinated by the name red wine chicken rou gu cha. And it is specify that their red wine is from Australia. As we had some Foo Chow red wine before and so we are willing to try the Australia red wine cook with rou gu cha. And since it's raining season, a bowl of rou gu cha would be nice. lol
My gal wanted to try the soup and after first sip she told me it's very sweet and many wine in there. lol Well..... she is right, the soup base is a bit sweet due to the red wine plus the chicken and it has a strong wine aroma. However, hubby comments that the rou gu cha cannot sustain the heat well due to the air condition, the heat gone in just few minutes. As hubby prefer "HOT" soup. ^o^
Dry Rou Gu Cha (SET) ~ 12.90
We also ordered another personal set for dry rou gu cha as we want to try their differences. In the menu, it's indicate that dry rou gu cha is a bit spicy but it turn out to be not spicy at all. This is my gal told me. I agree with her too. However the pork is very tender and the tastes vice is not too bad. Other than chicken and pork, there are other ingredients like meat balls, bean curd, mushroom, tofu bamboo vegetables........
However, you can add on extra things from the menu, and it will charge accordingly.
Golden Pear Dumplings ~ Rm6.90
Hubby saw this and he thinks that it is very cute and decided to try it out. It is basically
consist of vegetarian meat, potato, Japanese bread crumb, Cinnamomi Ramulu (from the menu).
We did not like it after our first bite.

Haven Delights @ Penang Times Square

On Sunday night, hubby bought a Chinese newspaper. While he is reading his newspaper, he saw a new place opening in Penang Times Square and he is so excited and comes and tell me all about this restaurant. And after reading the newspaper, we just realised that they have open since 2 weeks ago and the grand opening is just last Saturday. And since Monday is a public holiday, hubby is so eager to go and try the new outlet.
Haven Delights Interior and main entrance
Menu
Basically the restaurant serves cuisine from Shanghai, Japan, Hong Kong and Korea.
After we were seated, we were served with two menu and plain water. Then we have time to browse through the menu. After browsing through we decided to ask them the section where they indicate the "Buffet Menu". We wonder what is that as it is quite similar to the main menu. Then we were told that the buffet will only start on 20March 2009.
Dear readers,
Please take note that the buffet will start on 20 March 2009 and it cost RM49.90 ++ per person. Their buffet is like "Tao Cuisine" style. You can order from the buffet menu section as many as you could within the time frame of 2 hours from the time you step into the restaurant. Buffet would be open from 10.30am - 11pm daily. ~ Updated 20.04.2009 courtesy of Criz. ^o^
***And my advise to my reader is to wait till 20 March 2009 and go for their buffet. ***
We order the following dishes to try:

Endamame
That's my gal "must have" item when she saw it in the menu. However the endamame serve in this restaurant is some what different. As usually they steam and season it with some salt and from my gal, she told me that they season with butter.

Nabeyaki Udon
The next serving arrive is the Nabeyaki Udon. The textures of the udon is ok and soup tastes nice.
3 Cup Chicken
Hubby saw 3 cup chicken in the menu and he asked whether I would like to try it out. I told him, yes...... please go ahead. The 3 cup chicken is very different with the other 3 cup chicken we had before. I find that it lack of the basil aroma for 3 cup chicken. However, the chicken is very tender and yet tastes ok.
Chay Heong Tofu
This is one of the dish that is recommended by the waitress that took our order. I am asking her to suggest some of the "popular" foods that being serve in Haven Delights.
Well...... the Chay Heong tofu tastes not bad...... it is a bit salty if you take it directly. However, it would be nice if it taken with some rice.
Japanese Gyoza
This is another dish that recommended by the waitress too. And it turns out to be quite nice. However, I would prefer them to pan fried them a bit longer so that the outer part of the gyoza would tastes more crunchy.
Scallop Yaki
This is hubby order. He cannot resist to order this. There are only 2 pieces of scallop yaki in a plate. But the scallops are big. It is sprinkle with Japanese dried chillies powder and it tastes the combination of spicy and sweetness. I don't mind to order few plates of this if it is available in the buffet menu. ^o^
Silky Lau Mee
This is another recommended dish by the waitress. It is a very big plate of "mee". And the textures of the noodles is very QQ (may be some might call it silky since it's silky lau mee after all). But it tastes a bit salty for our liking. My gal loves the texture of the noodles and so do we.
Then after finished ordering the foods, I am looking for the deserts section. They have quite number of choices of dessert to choose from. But this time it's another waitress came and do our ordering as the previous one need to do some other stuff so this waitress kept telling me about the ice-cream and also coconut jelly. Then I asked hubby if he want "Mocha" ice-cream since he is the green tea fans. And he said yes and I opt for guru gama ice-cream.
Mocha Ice Cream
When the ice-cream is being serves, our eyes turn "BIG" as it is 2 big scoops of ice-cream. While I ordered the mocha ice cream I was told that they did not have the red bean to topped with the ice-cream for the time being but hubby still want to try.
The verdict is....... hubby don't like it as it is too bitter for him. May be if they topped with the red bean it would be nicer.
Kuru Gama Ice Cream
Well..... I decided to try this as I did not get the chance to try the black sesame ice-cream in ISARIBI Japanese Restaurant. So this is my first time to try the black sesame ice-cream and it has a very strong black sesame aroma.
*** One thing I would like to comment here about the ice-cream. The ice-cream is being served when we about to start our last dish. It would be nice that they serve when we finished our meals. ^o^ ***
