Restoran Pu Ti Zhai 菩提斋素食冷气餐馆 @ Sungai Petani, Penang.

Over the weekend, we went over to Sungai Petani to visit my hubby's grandma. We stopped by one of the popular vegetarian restaurants in Sungai Petani for lunch. Since it is a public holiday cum Nine Emperor Gods Festival, therefore it is quite a full house but we managed to grab one table for five of us.

FoOd that we savour:

Braised beancurd, black fungus, beansheet and mushroom 焖豆干

Curry mutton 咖喱羊肉
Stir fry vegetables with mushroom, sweet corn and fresh chilies 炒番薯叶
Braised preserved mustard with vegetarian chicken 梅菜鸡
Soya bean drink 豆水

FoOd PaRaDiSe verdict:

Overall, we enjoyed the food very much. The serving is very generous. Out of the four dishes, we enjoyed the curry mutton very much. Their braised preserved vegetables with chicken is also another recommendation. Their services are very efficient even though it is full house and very attentive too. Like their services very much. Very friendly staff.
Total amount for this meal is RM57 including 5 soya bean drinks and 5 plates of white rice.

FOOD THAT WE SAVOUR:

Restoran Makanan Laut Zhong Ma 中马式海鲜村 @ Sungai Petani, Kedah.
Stir fry Radix Notoginseng Leaf with garlic (田七菜)
The first time I came across this vegetables is from a vegetables stall in Cameron Highland. I never saw this kind of leafy vegetables before so I asked the auntie about it. Then she recommended me to buy it and just stir fry to eat. As an adventurous person in food, we decided to give this leaf a try.
Well...... we love the vegetable after we cooked it. But I hardly saw this in the market. So every time I went to Cameron Highland, I will search for the vegetable stalls for this.
This is the first try for all the relatives and cousins from my hubby side. As they never tried it before. It has a bit of bitterness in taste. But for us, we can  accept it even my gal. As this leafy vegetable is very smooth in textures.

 Black Pepper Spare Ribs
This black pepper spare ribs are one of the favourite dishes for them. As the spare ribs are really tender and juicy. Which is totally my gal type of dish. Actually for us, I did not really taste the black pepper on this spare ribs. But the tastes were awesome.

Deep fried lotus root with salted eggs
This is one of the dishes that I want to try out. As I heard about this dishes not long ago. We love lotus root very much. We love it with the soup, stir fry and deep fried. But we never came across to deep fried it with the salted eggs.

Steam grouper with special sauce
The steam grouper is very fresh from the aquarium tank of the restaurant. The taste vice is not bad.

FoOd PaRaDiSe verdict:

Sin Yik Hwa Restaurant (新益华餐室) @ Sungai Petani, Kedah

During a visit to Sungai Petani, we visited this restaurant. Hubby was been telling me about this restaurant lot of time but unfortunately I don't have the opportunity to visit it. As normally, we will have home cook food awaiting for us. So it was hard to savour this restaurant.
There are quite full houses when we arrived. But luckily enough to grab a table for the 4 of us. So we started to order the foods. Hubby wanted us to try the roast pork and sausages but unfortunately all sold out and need to wait for the next batch. Since my daugther need to attend tuition session in Penang, we just tried other foods. Will surely be back to try their other specialties.
Sambal prawns and squids
This sambal dish was not too spicy. So my gal loves to mix it with her rice.
Steam rice
There are few restaurants on Sungai Petani that serves their rice in this kind of bowl.
Peanut Spare Ribs Soups
This soup looks so normal and nothing special but after the first sip of the soup, you will feel the different. The aroma of the peanut filled the soup. It's been quite a long time that did not savour the peanut soups. Usually restaurants will offer black bean soup.
Braised pork with yam
The braised pork is very tender and so as the yam.
Egg with prawn
By the look of this dish is just a simple "Fu Yong Tan" but after you the first bite, it is more like the western style of omelette.
FoOd PaRaDiSe verdict: The foods were simple and yet delicious. It is a place where you can have a quick lunch. The place is very clean and well maintain.

Restoran Soon Mooi @ Sungai Petani, Kedah

We used to dine in this coffee shop with my hubby family during the weekend when we went back for a visit. And usually it will be a full house. We need two tables to accomodate all the people. And sometime we will order our foods first while waiting for our seats.
Usually most of the family members will order either one of the following foods for their breakfast:
Wantan Mee
The noodles are nice as it has it springy textures. My gal enjoys the deep fried wantan. ^-^
Special Mantou
Usually we will order few plates of this for our add on breakfast. We loves it as the mantou is soft and warm and the inside fillings are deep fried with ingredients.

98th Birthday Dinner Celebration @ Jade Garden, Sungai Petani, Kedah.

Another birthday celebration for hubby's grandma. This year she turns 98th. We have few tables of celebration at Jade Garden this year.
Following were some of the dishes for this year celebration:
Five different  hot plates
Bean Sprouts for the shark fin soup
Shark Fin Soup
Shark Fin Soup with the bean sprout
This have to pre-order. The purpose of the bean sprout is for you to add into the shark fin soup. This year every one get to serve in the small bowl as this year is just a small celebration only few tables.
Suckling Pig
Was disappointed with the suckling pig this time as the pig as it is too fatty and not very crunchy. Most importantly, it has a very strong aroma. :P
Black Pepper Prawn
This is one of the usual dishes prepared by the restaurant.
Steam Promfret
This year, we had normal steam promfret. As previously always had the Teo Chew style Promfret.
Noodles with prawn, squids, vegetables and pork slice
Well, it was told that it is a must for a birthday celebration dinner to have noodles. This is something different from the previous few years. The noodles itself is springy and the tastes vice were nice.
Deep Fried Tapioca
Deep Fried Tapioca
Dessert of the day
Had two different type of desserts this year. Well, I still preferred the other dessert that we used to order previously than this year dessert. :P
Overall, this year birthday dinner I think was not as good as previous birthday celebration dinner. Prior to this birthday celebration, we dine in there for usual lunch. I think that lunch is much more better than this. Will try to post that some other days. Sometime simple meals are better than an expensive meal, don't you think?

Restaurant Ta San Wan @ Taman Intan, Sungai Petani, Kedah

Last year has been a very hectic years for me. So I don’t have much time to blog. This year I tried to sort out sometime for myself and continue blogging. I have tons of foods to share but am thinking which one should I start? Perhaps I shall start with my Chinese New Year (CNY) reunion dinner.

This year my MIL suggested that she had our reunion dinner in a restaurant. As every one of us were so busy. I left Penang around 5pm to rush back to hubby home town for the reunion dinner. There are two sessions for the dinner i.e. 6pm and 8pm. We opt for the 6pm session.

Vividly before CNY, we tried the restaurant foods before. This restaurant is more like “Chu Char” style. We tried few dishes for lunch as following:

Stir Fry Sweet Potatoes Leaf

Guinness Stout Chicken

I heard from my MIL and also hubby aunt that their Guinness stout chicken was superb. Well….. it tastes nice but my gal was reluctant to take it after the first bites. I guess she cannot take the Guinness Stout aroma. The chicken is very tender and juicy. And if you liked the styles that the chicken were not deep fried too dry, you may want to try this out.

Deep Fried Fish with Soya Sauce

This is the first time that they ordered this fish. The outer part of the fish tastes very crunchy. The inner part is very delicious. Not too hard or too soft. Just perfect! However the fish slice is very rich. Sure kids would love this.

Thai Styles Bean curd with Salted Fish

I found that this bean curd is good to go with rice. It has a combination of saltiness and spiciness. My hubby families love this dish very much. Although it is very simple dishes but sometime it works out to be the best.

Following were the 8 course meals that we had for our reunion dinner:

Four Seasons Hot Plate

This is the first dish that we had for the reunion dinner. It consists of handmade fish meats, cuttlefish with special sauce, Chicken with mayonnaise and black pepper meats. Overall……. It’s something different as I never try the hot plates that consist of blanch cuttlefish with special sauce.

Crab Meat Shark Fin Soup

Fu Gui Kampung Chicken

The chicken is tender and soft. It is full of Chinese herbs. However I feel that the chicken should not wrap with the wrapping film. I would prefer that they use other source to wrap the chicken.

Indonesian Styles Prawn with Mantou

We like the sauces used for this dish. Adults are hard to get on hold of any mantou as most of the mantou are fully booked by the kids. For some who cannot take any spicy foods found that the foods are bit spicy for them.

Steam Red Snapper with Teo Chew Styles

Braised Seafood

The braised seafood is quite nice. It is very tender. Kids love it very much. Braised seafood consists of fish maw, sea cucumber, squids, mushroom, carrots and slice abalone.

金玉满堂

The name of the dishes is nice but however we felt that it is very salty. Apart from the ham, fatty pork, slices abalone, there were some carrots, twisted tang hoon and button mushroom.

Desserts ~ Gingko, White Fungus, Dry Longan and Red Dates

It’s never too late to wish everyone “Happy Chinese New Year 2012”.
