Maa Roy Thai Seafood Restaurant @ Krystal Point, Penang

Do you know that there is a new Thai Restaurant in Krystal Point? Well, it is actually a good news for the resident in Bayan Lepas area as you don't have to drive all the way down town. As I believed that this is the same restaurant in Abu Siti Lane, Penang. I never try the town one before but have the opportunity to try the one @ Krystal Point. It barely open for 2 weeks only.
Maa Roy Thai Seafood Restaurant
Location:B303-1-27 Krystal Point,
Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah Ahah, 11900 Bayan Lepas, Penang.
(It occupy the Shang Place and Shang Place moved to the corner where Flame Restaurant used to operate)

Menu

Interior Settings

After we were seated, we browsed through the menu. And hubby asked what would we like to have. Both my gal and I just asked hubby to order. So hubby order 5 dishes.
Chrysanthemum Drink ~ RM2.80

Appetiser
Straight after the order, here come the appetiser. Raw cucumber and long beans with sambal. Guess what??? My gal is so adventurous and dip the sambal. Not once but many times. I like the sambal being served here. You will not feel the fiery hot taste straight away but after a while. The sambal spiciness still acceptable for me. As I am not very good in handle too spicy foods.
After a short wait, we were surprised that our first dish is being served. That is

Deep Fried Squid with Garlic ~ RM12
The squid was nice. It is very crunchy in the outer part and very soft in the inside. My gal enjoys eating this as it is not so spicy. There are some sweet chili sauce to go with it. After a few bite, then she started to complaint that it is a bit salty. lol

Tom Yam Seafood ~ RM13
Hubby decide to order tom yam to try. We order the small size of tom yam as usually I am the one have to finish it all. As they don't really eat too spicy foods. But out of surprise, this tom yam is rather sourish than spicy. So my gal have some of it.

Pineapple Fried Rice ~ RM15 (Medium served)
Hubby decided to have a change and go for pineapple fried rice instead of normal white rice. As recently my gal fond of pineapple fried rice. And we were discussing whether to get the small size or the medium size serve. And we were told by the waiter that we should go for Medium as the Small is for individual servings only.
When the pineapple fried rice arrive on the table, our eyes grow so "big" as it is quite a big serve. Hubby told me that we should eventually go for small serve will do. hahhahahha...... but we have some one to help us finished the fried rice. That's my gal. lol

Prawn Omelette ~ RM7
Hubby worried her baby gal cannot handle spicy foods. So order this for her. And it has a nice aroma.

Coconut Shoot with prawn ~ RM12
After browsing through the menu, both hubby and I saw this dish. Hubby asked if I want to try it out. Then I said yes as we been seeing lots of food programme introducing this dish but we never get to try it out. Since this is the opportunity, off course we would like to try it out.
The coconut shoot is very crunchy and I even asked my gal to try it and she did but she told me it is too spicy for her. But hubby and I found that it is not spicy at all. For those who don't like basil, perhaps you have to omit this dish as it has lots of basil in there.

Tab Tim Krob ~ RM3.90
I was so full after the dinner but hubby told me that he still can have dessert. So I asked him to order one will do. So this is the tab tim krob being served here.
Overall, it is quite a nice dinner we had. As the foods are not too spicy. It is good for family that have kid that cannot take too spicy foods.

Teluk Kumbar Seafood @ Teluk Kumbar, Penang

This is one of the seafood restaurants that we use to visit in the past few years. We usually go there very early to prevent the crowd. Most of our visitors will certainly visit this place before. And since one of my friends came for a visit few months back and she wants something light and easy. She prefer some seafoods. So we brought her over to
Teluk Kumbar Seafood
For the location, please refer here.
One thing that is nice about this place is to have nice breeze and scenery while you dine here.
Some table settings near the beach areas
Fishing boats and kids playing
Fishing boat
After order our foods, my friend is busy taking some photos and so do I but when the satay arrived, I stopped as I am so hungry........ ^-^
Chicken Satay
Most of you should know by now that the satay serves here is without satay sauce as it was coated in the satay. My gal sometime find that it is quite spicy for her. But normally she will take 2 pieces of satay and then she will clear all the cucumbers in no time.
My friend enjoys the satay here and she loves it very much as she never tried this kind of satay before.
Apart from the satay, we order some other dishes. And since my friend cannot take spicy foods, so we order all of the things non spicy for her.
Stir fry vegetables ~ RM6
Deep Fried Home Made Tofu ~ RM4
We were introduced by the lady who took our order for this home made tofu. And since we did not try before, so we order one to try. Overall, the tofu taste ok.
Tu Boh Sui ~ RM6
Hubby saw someone order this nearby our table and add on to our "makan" list. My gal loves to have this. During her first attempt to chew this tu boh sui, she gave up. But after I told her to fight with this octopus, she fond in love with it. ^-^
Deep fried sotong ~ RM6
The sotong is nice. As it is crunchy in the outer part that coated with the flour and inside is soft and tender.
Prawn ~ RM18
I use to love the prawn in this shop and I can eat many of this. My friend have a try and told me that it is perfectly done and she loves it so much. One thing the serve is too small for us. Hubby asked if we want to order another plate but we rejected since he ordered the following crab for us:

Crab ~ RM36
My brother and sister love the crab here very much. Especially my brother. Whenever I brought him to another shop to have the crab, he will compare and tell me that he still loves the way this shop prepare their crab.
My friend is happy digging with the crab and told me that she loves the way they prepare the crab as she usually have crab that cooked with sauces. It is quite a good experience for her. At least she got the chance to sample some of the foods that she never tried before.
Sunset
By the time we finished our meal, it is around sunset. Took this photos before we left. By the time, we left, the place is so crowded with customers. So be there early if you want to savour the foods in this restaurant.

Restoran Zi Zai @ Paya Terubong, Penang

Over the past one year since I start open my blog to the public, I came to know many people such as food blogger, FoOd PaRaDise readers, owner of the restaurant where I visited and do review. Then we keep in touch with each other from time to time.
And today, I would like to introduce a place for "chu char" which I get to know him when I visited 西公园(See Kong Ooi). He is the chef there before. Then we keep in touch with each other through email. And I get to know that he is searching for new place to set up his own business.
He is Hock Chai , the restaurant owner of Restoran Zi Zai which some of you might knew him. The shop just barely 3 months ++.
The restaurant location is @
1239-G Ground Floor , Jalan Paya Terubong 11060 Air Itam. Penang.
(It is slightly opposite of Terubong Seafood and Ah Thong Paya Terubong Seafood)
Telephone : 04-8265713
Business Hour : 5 pm - 10.30 pm ( Last order at 10pm)
Close on every Tuesday.
List of the foods being served in this restaurant. There are another list of foods too but I just managed to captured one of it.
Settings of the restaurant
After the slight intro of the restaurant, let me share with you what we have order for our 2 visits:

Deep Fried Belachan Chicken ~ RM8
Before I went to the shop, I asked Hock Chai what is his favourites and he told me it's the belachan chicken. So I always kept in my mind that I shall try this as I did not order this dish back in See Kong Ooi.
The chicken turn out to be slightly burned but it is very crispy in the outer part and very tender inside. Both hubby and I found that it is a bit too salty for our liking and I have addressed this to Hock Chai and he told me that he will look into it. (He told me perhaps due to the marinating of chicken wings)
Assam Curry Fish ~ RM14 onwards
Hubby feel like having some curry for the night and so we ordered the assam curry fish. My gal like the assam curry sauce. As it is not too spicy.
Stir Fry Ladies Fingers - RM5
Usually we will order some green to go with the other foods. Since my gal is with us, we have to order something that is not spicy. So we ordered stir fry lady fingers with garlic. And my gal just loves it. And she almost finished it. ^-^

Prawn Omelette - RM6
Hubby worried that my gal cannot take the assam curry fish, so he ordered the prawn omelette for her. Mind you the prawn is rather big and fresh. We love the aroma of the omelette when it is being serve in our table.
After my first visit, I told Hock Chai about what we think of the foods and he told me that he will look into it and wrote to me again that he had introduce new dishes which I might like to try. So, hubby and I make a move there again after one month.
We ordered:
Watercress Soup - RM5
This is one of my gal favourite soups. Since they have the soup that day, so we ordered that. Mind you it is quite a big bowl of soup. It seems like we kept drinking it and it never end. So end up we leave some since we cannot finished it anymore. ^-^

Stir Fry Kang Kong with garlic - RM5
As usual, no spicy greens for my gal, we order stir fry kang kong with garlic and it turns out to be very nice. My gal enjoys it very much.

Braised Spareribs with Mushrooms - RM9
This is one of the dishes that Hock Chai asked me to try and it became quite popular dish since he introduce it in his new shop. The spare ribs is very tender and there are lots of mushrooms. It is quite a normal dish.

Fish Meat Tofu -RM15
For this dish, you can choose to have different kinds of fish and you can also have fish head too. But we order fish meat this time since it is easier for my gal. We love this dish very much and I would recommend that you try this out. It is very suitable for the elderly and the kids. Beside the deep fried fish meat, there are deep fried tofu, some greens, carrots and sprinkle with spring onion.
Recently, I received an email from Hock Chai that they have introduce another dish ~ Deep Fried Fish with Sambal Sauce. You can give it a try and let me know when you try it. If you don't like chu char, then they also serves different kind fried rice and bee hoon.
To avoid the long wait, I would suggest you to go early especially during weekends.

Kedai Kopi New Cathay @ Pulau Tikus, Penang

I am sure this is the place where it is not a stranger to anybody in Penang. As this coffee shop serves nice and varieties foods. We tend to have difficulty to get a seat no matter whether you go during weekdays or weekend. It is usually full house. Normally we will go there during breakfast in the weekend but during one weekday whereby hubby taking day off, we decide to go there and check out whether there are as many patrons as always.
So one weekday, we arrived Kedai Kopi New Cathay around 8.10am and we still mange to get table for two. So hubby went around and order the foods and mind you, he is so hungry that day and he order a lot. hahahhahaa......
Mee Jawa
Hubby opts for the stir fry version of mee jawa. And we found out that the way the stall owner add in the egg into the mee jawa is something different. Every piece of the noodles is cover with egg. Hubby comments that the noodles are not bad.

Chai Koay
Hubby cannot wait any longer and bought some chai kuih and kuih from the kuih stall. The chai koay being serves there are not too bad. The skin and fillings of the chai koay are ok.
Kuih
I am not really a fans of nyonya kuih. But I do take it from time to time. I am not sure when, I started to dislike the kuih that coat with coconut. But hubby insist me to try and told me that it tastes nice. As an adventure person, I will always try my best to try. Overall, not too bad.

Hokkien Mee
Both of us share this hokkien mee. And this bowl of hokkien mee is quite nice. Have a nice aroma.

Wantan Mee
This is one of my gal favourites. I remember when she last visited this cafe, she loves it so much. Hubby loves the springy textures of the wantan mee and he told me that it is worth the waiting time. lol

Koay Chap
This is actually my order of koay chap. I like to try different stall of koay chap. Each stall has it own aroma and flavour. And the textures of the koay chap varies too. Overall, I found that the koay chap here are not bad. If you don't like the coriander, then you have to ask the stall owner not to put as it will immersed into the koay chap soup base.
My previous post about the pancake can be view here.

We have the opportunity to taste each drinks with a spoon and end up with had one of the drinks by our self. And I had the Hazelnut Latte which is quite nice. If you like something cooling, perhaps you could order Honey Lemon Ice, Wheat grass Smoothies (which every one love it very much) and Mango smoothies. There are lots more to choose from and I am sure that there are something that suits your taste buds.
For the review, we have the chance to try up to 15 different type of foods as following:
M1 Spaghetti Chicken Bolognese (RM6.90)
We started off by having the spaghetti. As usual, we take turn for the photo session. Then we start to dig in. The spaghetti chicken bolognese are not bad.

M5 Cheesy Chicken Lasagna (RM9.90)
Lasagna is another food that we try under Western Paradise. I prefer the cheesy chicken lasagna then the spaghetti chicken bolognese. As the taste suits me better. Usually when I ordered lasagna, I will usually share with some one since taking lasagna alone, it will fill my stomach up pretty fast. Therefore, I usually will try other things to go with lasagna. If you are lasagna lover, remember to order this to try!
F06 Tomyam Seafood Fried Noodle (RM8.50)
Next, we try some South East Asia Favourite. I gather both of the tom yam flavour next to each other so that it's easy for my readers to read through. This the tom yam seafood fried noodle. From the names, you should know that the noodles are cooked with tom yam and sea foods. The textures of the noodles is nice as it is not overcooked. However, I prefer......
T01 Tom Yam Seafood Noodle (RM9.90)
yup..... I prefer the soup version of tom yam. All the ingredients uses to prepare the Tom Yam is fresh ingredients. And this tom yam is a bit sourish. Some might find it spicy but for me, it is ok. If you like sourish type of tom yam, you will definitely love this.
We were told by Andy that they have "white color" tom yam in the future. I am sure gonna give the white tom yam a try when they introduce it in the future. I will keep you updates!
T02 Ipoh Chicken Slice Noodle (RM6.90)
If you like something that is not spicy, perhaps you sould give this a try! Something sweet in the soup.
S01 Nasi Lemak Curry Chicken (RM7.90)
Craving for nasi lemak? Perhaps can give this a try. I love the anchovies serves as a side dish here. It is very crunchy and delicious. The chicken is very tender and the curry has a nice aroma. It is nice to go with the nasi lemak. The papapdam are not bad as well.
S02 Nasi Lemak Rendang Chicken (RM7.90)
If you don't like the nasi lemak like my gal, then you can order this Rendang Chicken as the rice serve is using "white rice". As my gal prefer white rice than nasi lemak. As she doesn't like the nasi lemak textures. lol
Anyway, the rendang chicken is very tender as well and has a nice aroma.Oh not to mention that the sambal top on the white rice is a must try! I am sure my gal would love that too! Will bring her there and try out in the coming school holiday.
S04 Udang Sambal Rice (RM7.90)
I am really a fans of prawn. In my house when I am a little, I am already be crowned as "Queen of Prawn" and I remembered that once my dad bought be 1kg prawn and deep fried it and I sitting there eating almost the whole plate of prawn. lol OMG, can't believed that I can eat so much prawns while I am young. lol
The udang sambal that being served here is nice and the prawn is very fresh. If this is my plate of udang sambal rice, I think I would have finish it in no time. lol
S06 Dry Curry Stir Fried Chicken Rice (RM6.90)
This is actually "Kam Hiong" chicken rice. Normally we had our kam hiong with seafood's. But the boss here stir fry it with chicken. The kam hiong is very nice. If it cooked with seafood's, it would be the best but because Andy would like to offer some value meal, if he uses seafood's, the price would have increase.
F02 Capsicum Prawn Fried Rice (RM7.90)
The fried rice has it aroma and full of "wok hei" And with the combination of color, it is very appetising and I think the kids would love it very much as it is not spicy at all. But for the adults, please do try the sambal. It is very popular and the taste is very nice. Give it a try!
B02 Sweet & Spicy Fish Bento (RM8.50)
Next, we try Japanese Asian Style Bento. And it cost only RM8.50. I am sure you will be full after having this bento as it has generous amount of rice, sweet and spicy fish bento. Apart from that they also serve with some salads and soup. A note that I should mention here is about the soup. It is not miso soup being served in this bento. It is the chef create the soup themselves. Something different.

J01 Unagi Fried Egg Rice (RM12.90)
Ah.... I found that my gal would love this unagi fried egg rice too. As she is the fan of unagi. Most of the time, she will order unagi when she dine in Japanese restaurant. OI personally found that the combination in this bowl of unagi fried egg rice is very tasty.

M4 Mushroom Chicken Chop with Garlic Butter Rice (RM9.90)

We were attracted by the name butter rice. Wonder if it too oily? Well, the answer is no. It tastes nice and aroma with a bit of herbs. The chicken chop is rather too dry as may be because we asked the kitchen to hold on for our order as we are not be able to cope with the photo shooting and testing. And since the chicken chop is rather thin and it over coked a bit. But the chicken is quite tender and the mushroom sauce that cover on top of it is nice.

E5 Honey Pepper Roast Chicken Drum (5pcs - RM6.90)
This is one of the finger licking foods that I recommend that you should order. If you are not too hungry, perhaps you can order this to try with some drinks. But please be reminded that it is only 5pcs in the normal order. From the above photos show it is double the normal order which gather for our photo shooting session.

P03 Seafood Mushroom Porridge (RM7.90)

At the last dish that we try is seafood mushroom porridge. I found that it is a bit salty for my liking but overall the porridge is nice.

Interior Settings
Hubby as usual go and make the ordering and gal and I are busy looking at the aquarium with different kind of prawns and also some fishes. Sorry, I did not took any photos of it. Then we were seated. After a while..... came the waitress who order our drinks. And we waited for quite sometime for the foods being served. Later we found out that they just open on Friday, 30th October 2009. But their open ceremony will be much more later date. So we can understand that the new staffs still need some more time to familiar with the operation. But their service are great.
So for that night we order:
Pak Chiok Prawn ~ RM18
This is always has been their signature dishes. And both gal and I are the prawn queen, we enjoyed eating it very much. The prawn is just cook to the perfect timing. And we also have some one to help us to remove the prawn shell. lol Oh... I guess I don;t remembered to take the chili photos again. So forgetful of me. lol
Stir fry Kailan ~ RM6
Hubby and I love the kailan very much. It is very young kailan and the textures is so crunchy and sweet.
3 cup chickens ~ RM10
Hubby ordered 3 cup chickens to try and the taste is quite nice. But if you don't like basil. Then you should skip this dish. All of us take basil , so we love it very much. However, hubby and I found that the chicken piece is too big.
Curry Fish ~ RM20
This curry is very nice. A bit sourish and spicy. My gal found it too spicy for her liking. But she cannot resist the curry aroma. And she put some curry to go with the rice. Mind you, she took more than one bowl of rice that night.
There are many fish meats in there and also lots of brinjal, tomatoes, lady fingers....... At the end when we foot the bill, we realised that the fish that we had taken is around 400gm but it seems too many for us. lol

*****TownView Seafood Cafe are running special promotion right now for their opening. That is all the CRABS, any style of cooking is just RM23 per KG. So for the crabs lover out there, grab this opportunity and try it out! (But it is only applicable for dine in.)*****
I will certainly go back for the crab meals...... lol

Restoran Aik Hoe, Lebuh Carnorvan, Penang

Have you ever try the golden day styles of "Yum Cha" in Penang before? I heard so much about hubby grandpa stories of where he loved to had his dim sum in Penang and mostly have closed down. Finally, I came to know this place after reading Guang Ming and also from CK blog's. So I tell hubby about this place and we decided to give it a try! But in our first attempt, the restaurant is close. Then we went back again another day. Lucky that it's open. lol

Business Hours : 5am - 2pm(Closed on Monday)
GPS Coordinates : N05 2502.8 E100 2009.8 (Information from CK blog's)

Restoran Aik Hoe
Chair that crafted with the name "Restoran Aik Hoe"
If you see this on the chair, that's mean you are in the right restaurant. lol

Nice floor decoration
ok...... back to the topic of foods. But before that tell you our incident to this shop. We arrived there after searching a car park and it's during weekday. And to be surprise, we saw many people in the shop. Many are old folks and also some younger generation accompany their parents, granny and grandpa for breakfast. When we spotted seat for two, we grab it and waited. We were wondered whether we should go over the kitchen and order for foods as we saw many people walked to the back of kitchen and came out with foods. But after browsing through other tables, I told hubby, I guessed we need to wait. As many people had nothing on the table except pot of tea.
After waited for few minutes, came the order for tea. We were asked whether we want to have any noodles. And she told us a list of noodles, then hubby decided to try Wantan Mee. Which I will elaborates more in this post.
Then waited for about 15 minutes or more, we saw the staff there carry the big tray of dim sum out from the kitchen and goes one by one to each table. I was like huh...... they still serve it this way? I quite enjoy it though. So we ordered:

Siew Mai

Fun Cheong Kuen
This is something different which we never try before. And we were told by the shopper there that this is very famous. So we ordered and try. We quite like the tastes. As it has the combination of pork, black fungus, shrimp and water chestnuts. Give it a try!

Har Gao

Sweet Corn
The fillings in there is sweet corn. And I was told that it is rather sweet and I warned hubby about that. Since he is sweet corn lover. He decided to try. End up, he also reckon that it is very sweet for him. lol

Yoke Aun Kuen
This is another special thing dim sum which we never encounter before. And we thought it is very big but it is very small pieces. The water chestnut with pork makes the dim sum some sweetness. Have you try this before?

Spare Ribs
Chai Koay
I am actually a chai koay lover and will try any chai koay that is available. In fact, I am waiting for my MIL to teach me her version of chai koay. The chai koay sold in this shop are not bad.

Char Siew Pao
Hubby being a pao lover. Never failed to order any pao during the dim sum section. And he found that the char siew pao is quite nice and the size is eventually cute and small compares to other eateries. And we bought some back for my gal to try.

Gai Chat
We saw this just before we about to pay. But could not resist to try it. It is basically steam chicken. But we found that it is slightly salty for our liking. But the chicken is very tender.

Lor Mai Kai
I purposely took the photos of the steel bowl. I found that it is very cute and small. It is use for lor mai kai. I quite enjoy the lor mai kai in this shop. Not sure why? Perhaps the little cute steel bowl makes me to just loving it. lol

Wantan Mee
After hubby ordered this plate of wantan mee, I asked hubby why he ordered wantan mee in a dim sum shop? Hubby reply me that he feels like trying the wantan mee. ok.... fine with me. The wantan mee arrived after we had few servings of dim sum. And hubby comments that the wantan mee is not bad. Have the springy textures.
Overall, we quite enjoy the old style of dim sum in Penang. And this is in fact my first try of dim sum without using pushing cart instead of using hand to carry the big bamboo baskets. The second encounter is in Sungai Petani which I will blog about it next time.
