Bridge Street Hokkien Mee (桥头福建面)

Bridge Hokkien Mee  (桥头福建面)
Location: 533 Beach Street, Penang.
This place is quite easy to find. But it's took me long time to visit this place and blog about it. Most of the time, if I am on my way from town area to Bayan Lepas area, I would have passed this area.
The first time, I visited this shop, I tried their hokkien mee. After the first sip of the hokkien mee, I told hubby that my gal would like this. Perhaps can tag her along next time. Another thing about this hokkien mee is that you add the chili pastes yourself. Usually each table will provide you a ketchup stored bottle. Which they put their chilli pastes inside. So you can add as much chilli pastes as per your liking.
Those who cannot take too spicy hokkien mee, this would be an alternative suggestion. The broth itself has the strong aroma of prawn and the sweetness from the prawn itself.

Bridge Hokkien Mee
                                                Hokkien Lor Mee
During the second visit, we tag along my gal to try the hokkien mee. And My hubby opt for the hokkien lor mee. Perhaps the next visit would try the pure lor mee.
(* Picture taken from my hand phone*)
After your meal, perhaps you can walk a few steps and took the following Penang's Street Art from the wall:

Lean Thye Kopitiam @ Lebuh Ah Quee, Penang.

Some of you might already try this lor mee before but for me this is the first time. I passed by many times over the years. Almost full house each time I passed this shop.
Lean Thye

Kopi "O"
The painting above caught my attention the moment I walked in, so I straight away order a hot kopi "O" when the auntie asked me what to drink. Sugars are provided on each table, which is good as you can add to your preference.
Hubby enjoys the coffee but I am not really fancy of this type of kopi "O". Hahahahaha........
Lor Mee
The gravy of the lor mee served here is very thick and full of aroma. You can add extra duck egg, pork and pork skin with extra charges. The chili and garlic pastes are on each table for you to add to your bowl of lor mee according to your liking.
The shop closed on every Sunday. The Lor Mee for small served costs RM3.50 and the large serve costs RM4.

Sister's Char Koay Teow @ Macalister Road, Penang

Whenever there are visitors coming to Penang, one of the hawker delicacies that they wanted to try is "Char Koay Teow". As you can always see in some other state in Malaysia that they served "Penang Char Koay Teow". So I think "Char Koay Teow" is a must try foods for all the visitors.
Today, I am about to share with you is one of the popular char koay teow in Penang. You must have heard "Sister's Char Koay Teow" before right? Well, this is the CKT that I am about to blog for today.
This CKT stall is locate in Lam Heng Cafe, No. 185, Macalister Road, Penang. It is just opposite of Loh Guan Lye Specialist Centre.
How do you classify the best CKT? I guessed everyone in their heart/mind have their own version of best CKT. As some like it wet and some like it dry. However, I prefer my CKT in dry version. ^-^ And with some chilies to bring out the fragrant of the CKT.
One thing in mind that you have to remember while dining in here. Is to prepare to wait. Even though that we went there very early in the morning. I still have to wait for very long. As I think the helper mixed up my order and gave it to some one who came later than me. So hubby went and complaint about it. After a long wait I get to savour the

Popular Sister's Char Koay Teow
I can differentiate the different of sister's char koay teow and others as the CKT is top with some crab meat. I think this is one of their "attraction" and also "specialties".
From the photos, you cannot see any traces of chilies in there. But it is cooked with chilies and it is quite spicy for some. You can always ask for less chilies if you cannot take too spicy foods.
Oh Kuih
While waiting for CKT, hubby order some Oh Kuih to try.
Braised Chicken Feet
Apart from the oh Kuih, hubby also ordered braised chicken feet to try. As the oh kuih and the braised chicken feet are offer by the same stall owner.
From I first spotted of the braised chicken feet, I am telling myself that it looks so dark and must be very salty. But it turns out to be wrong. It was sweet instead. The chicken feet is not very tender. As it is have the springy textures there. But I enjoyed the braised mushroom. It is very juicy and full of flavor in it.

Lor Mee
Hubby opt for the lor mee as he is not CKT fans. He loves noodles rather than koay teow. Hubby commented that the lor mee is not bad.
Apart from the above foods, you can also opt for some steamed bun and dim sum which sold in front of the shop. Where I saw may people stop by to take away to work.

Kedai Kopi Seng Thor @ Lebuh Carnarvon, Penang

I have been waiting for a chance to visit the stalls @ Seng Thor Coffee Shop for quite some time. As I have been reading many food blogs about this place. But since I read some negative reviews about this place. I decided not to bring my gal there. So while my gal goes to school, we head down to this place and give it a try!
Kedai Kopi Seng Thor
The main purpose we visited this shop is to try out their Koay Teo Thn'g. But since it a long wait, hubby decide to order Lor Mee to try it out.
Lor Mee
Well..... the lor mee stall is not busy as the KTT stall. So we just waited for a while and the lor mee is being served in front of us. Hubby comments that the lor me is just so-so but I did not try it out as I am waiting eagerly for the KTT. ^-^
Koay Teow Thn'g
Well..... from the look of the KTT, it looks something like the King Street KTT. But after start digging it, we can know the differences. Perhaps we have too high hope of the outcomes. And it turn out to be just so-so for us. We still prefer the Sin Hoe Peng.
We would like to try other foods stall but too bad that they are not open on the day. ^-^

Hwa Pin @ Church Street, Penang

After go through Lingzie blog post where she introduce the delicious pancake @ Church Street, I told hubby about that. And hubby told me ok, when we free we go and try it. So in the first attempt we went there during Sunday (after checking Lingzie posts, I just realise that it is close on Sunday. Business hour is from Monday to Saturday ~ Morning till 2pm) and we could not find it as we over shoot it and some one at the back of the car seat is grumbling that she is very hungry. So we did not go for the second search as need to fill up the "hungry monster" tummy first. lol
Then during one weekday when hubby is on leave, we went there and have a look. Actually the place is very easily spotted. But during the first visit, we did not pay attention. ^-^ Actually, once after you turn from Beach Street to Church Street, the coffee shop ~ Hwa Pin is situated on the second building on your left. Hwa Pin Coffee Shop is few shops away from Pinang Peranankan Mansion and Eng Loh Coffee Shop.
Hwa Pin
Since we went there to have breakfast and not sure what the shop offers as from Lingzie posts, I saw some set lunch offer by the coffee shop. So once seated, we have a look and decided to order:
Curry Mee
This is my order since I saw there is one stall selling curry mee, so I give it a try. From the first impression when I look at this bowl of curry mee, I thought the taste must be awful from the color of the curry soup base. But after start to dig in, hmm...... not that bad. It is something different from the other curry mee that I had before. The chili paste used is something different. And if you like the curry with rich santan, then this would be your choice.

Lor Mee
Hubby had this and actually his bowl of lor mee came first. After snap snap snap, hubby dig in. His verdict is the lor mee is not bad. ^-^

Banana and Raisin Pancake
The highlight for this post would be the "Banana and Raisin Pancake". This is the main thing I came here for. ^-^ Hubby is the first one to try it as you know usually who took the photograph will be the last to dig in. lol Once hubby tasted, he is so excited and told me, "This is great, very juicy raisin and have a very nice banana aroma. Crunchy some more. You will surely love this!".
After hearing that, off course I quickly tried it out and yes, he is right, I love it. Love the texture of the pancake and also the aroma. Actually I just seated next to the auntie who sell this pancake and I saw the making of the pancake just beside me. But too bad, I did not take any photos of it. ^-^ I would recommend that you to try this pancake if you love this type of pancake. lol
***Updated 23.09.2009, I was informed by Lingzie that the pancake auntie moved again. We still not sure where she moved. But will keep updated if found her. ^-^ ***

Curry Mee Stall No. 7
Curry Mee
Ah..... whenever I am craving for curry mee when I am in Bayan Baru Market, I will opt for this stall curry mee. It has a very rich curry aroma. And i like the way that they cook the noodles. As some tend to over cooked it but this stall never fail me each time I ordered from them.
