Restaurant Ta San Wan @ Taman Intan, Sungai Petani, Kedah

Last year has been a very hectic years for me. So I don’t have much time to blog. This year I tried to sort out sometime for myself and continue blogging. I have tons of foods to share but am thinking which one should I start? Perhaps I shall start with my Chinese New Year (CNY) reunion dinner.

This year my MIL suggested that she had our reunion dinner in a restaurant. As every one of us were so busy. I left Penang around 5pm to rush back to hubby home town for the reunion dinner. There are two sessions for the dinner i.e. 6pm and 8pm. We opt for the 6pm session.

Vividly before CNY, we tried the restaurant foods before. This restaurant is more like “Chu Char” style. We tried few dishes for lunch as following:

Stir Fry Sweet Potatoes Leaf

Guinness Stout Chicken

I heard from my MIL and also hubby aunt that their Guinness stout chicken was superb. Well….. it tastes nice but my gal was reluctant to take it after the first bites. I guess she cannot take the Guinness Stout aroma. The chicken is very tender and juicy. And if you liked the styles that the chicken were not deep fried too dry, you may want to try this out.

Deep Fried Fish with Soya Sauce

This is the first time that they ordered this fish. The outer part of the fish tastes very crunchy. The inner part is very delicious. Not too hard or too soft. Just perfect! However the fish slice is very rich. Sure kids would love this.

Thai Styles Bean curd with Salted Fish

I found that this bean curd is good to go with rice. It has a combination of saltiness and spiciness. My hubby families love this dish very much. Although it is very simple dishes but sometime it works out to be the best.

Following were the 8 course meals that we had for our reunion dinner:

Four Seasons Hot Plate

This is the first dish that we had for the reunion dinner. It consists of handmade fish meats, cuttlefish with special sauce, Chicken with mayonnaise and black pepper meats. Overall……. It’s something different as I never try the hot plates that consist of blanch cuttlefish with special sauce.

Crab Meat Shark Fin Soup

Fu Gui Kampung Chicken

The chicken is tender and soft. It is full of Chinese herbs. However I feel that the chicken should not wrap with the wrapping film. I would prefer that they use other source to wrap the chicken.

Indonesian Styles Prawn with Mantou

We like the sauces used for this dish. Adults are hard to get on hold of any mantou as most of the mantou are fully booked by the kids. For some who cannot take any spicy foods found that the foods are bit spicy for them.

Steam Red Snapper with Teo Chew Styles

Braised Seafood

The braised seafood is quite nice. It is very tender. Kids love it very much. Braised seafood consists of fish maw, sea cucumber, squids, mushroom, carrots and slice abalone.

金玉满堂

The name of the dishes is nice but however we felt that it is very salty. Apart from the ham, fatty pork, slices abalone, there were some carrots, twisted tang hoon and button mushroom.

Desserts ~ Gingko, White Fungus, Dry Longan and Red Dates

It’s never too late to wish everyone “Happy Chinese New Year 2012”.

Wang Chao Chinese Cuisine @ Pekaka Square, Penang

Last month, during one outing for dinner, we decided to head to

Wang Chao Chinese Cuisine
Location: 2-G-2, Pekaka Square, Lebuh Pekaka 1 Sungai 2, 11700 Gelugor, Penang.
Tel: 04 - 6571118
SMS: 016-5577268
It's been quite sometime that I did not dine into this place. And I just recalled that I never blog about this place before. So we decided to go back and do some review about this place.
After browse through the menu, we decided to order some soup for a starter. But we were told most of the soup has been sold out. So at last we ordered the last bowl of
Stewed "Yeo Som" Chicken Soup ~ RM5 per bowl
Since this is the last bowl of stewed soup. So we just ordered one of this and share among 3 of us. And we were lucky that we did not order more as my gal cannot stand the "Yeo Som" aroma. But for hubby and I, we were enjoying this bowl of chicken soup. And there are lots of chicken in this bowl of stewed yeo com chicken soup. For RM5, it is really worth for value and also the quality. ^-^
Stir Fry Long Beans ~ RM8
We always will order some greens for our dinner. And hubby decided to order stir fry long beans since my gal loves long beans and also french beans very much. The vegetables are deep fried before and stir fry with some mince pork and dried shrimp. we enjoyed this plate of vegetables very much. ^-^
Steam Scallops ~ RM15
Hubby also ordered some scallops for my gal. As my gal loves scallops very much. Perhaps due to the textures of the scallops so she falls in loves with scallops since she is small. There are stir fry version of scallop too. But hubby decided to go for steam instead. And the scallops came out to be nice.
Clay pot Sea Cucumber and Seafood ~ RM18
This is one of the dishes reminds me about new year. As normally during Chinese New Year, you will see this type of dish in the restaurant menu. Hubby spotted this dish and feels like having it. So he ordered it for us to try. And with the value of money and also the quantity amount of the sea cucumbers, abalones, mushrooms and "Fa Chai", we reckon that it is quite a nice dish to order. Furthermore, it is not salty at all. ^-^
Beijing Crispy Chicken ~ RM8
Hubby was so attracted by the name of the chicken. So he ordered this to try. The Beijing Chicken is very crispy and tender inside. Which is quite a nice dish to order.
Overall, we enjoyed the foods being served in this restaurant. And since we were too full with all the foods that we ordered. We did not get the chance to try out their desserts. Their service are great and very attentive. While I am busy capturing the dishes, the waiter and waitress there were so helpful and helping me to move the new dish to my front for easy capturing the dish. I was so thrilled for their attentiveness. ^-^ The total bill came out to be RM64.10 including drinks and foods.
They also have lots of Chinese New Year menu to choose from RM178 - RM518 . Pop over to their website and check it out. If you like to try Poon Choy, they also have some other packages to choose from.
*****There are no government tax and service charge by Wang Chao Chinese Cuisine.*****

SG WANG SEAFOOD RESTAURANT @ Sungai Nibong, Penang

Would you like to have some "halal" foods with your Malay colleagues and friends? Whenever we have some Malay friends/colleagues, we always have some difficulty when choosing a venue as we have to choose place that is "Halal". And recently, I found a shop that is certified "Halal" in this restaurant which serve Chinese/Vietnamese and Thai Cuisine.
During our visit to Song Yen Seafood, we spotted this newly opened restaurant ~
SG WANG SEAFOOD RESTAURANT
Location: No. 8-10 Lebuh Nipah 5, 11900, Penang.
Tel: 04 - 6455368
It is located at the back row of Hai Nan Homecook Chinese Restaurant.
We are the first customer for the dinner session and we were directed to our seats. Then came the menu. They have quite lots of things to order from the menu. But since this is our first time there, we stick to some of the ordinary orders and some recommendation by the restaurant.
End up we ordered:
Bamboo Prawns ~ RM15
As we were told that this is one of the special dishes. The bamboo prawns tasted fresh and tasty and the sauces are not very spicy but my gal found it a bit too spicy for her though. So I ate most of the prawns by myself. ^-^
Kerabu Chicken ~ RM10
Actually hubby wants to try the kerabu fish but i insisted that he ordered the kerabu chicken as my gal would like to have some chicken. The chicken is deep fried and garnish with kerabu and sauce. The kerabu chicken is pretty normal that you can find in many places. And since hubby don't take deep fried foods so often, so my gal and I finished most by ourselves.
Stir fry french beans ~ RM8
Hubby and my gal love this dish very much. Perhaps this is also the first dishes being served, and they ate most of them but they reckon some part of the stir fry french beans is salty. But it is ok to go with rice.
Claypot Seafood Delight ~ RM25
This is hubby order as he would like to try out their claypot seafood delight. But this turn out to be a bit disappointment for us. As it is too watery. It is more like a soup. ^-^ Hubby comments that it is a bit blunt. But we scoop all the ingredients out and finished it and left all the soup behind. lol
Overall, their services are good, very attentive and also the environment is bright, clean and air conditioned. We did not try out the desserts since we were full with all the order but will go back next time to try them out. Our total bills are RM68.70 (including 3 plates of rice and 2 drinks)

Xin Jiang Cafe @ Sungai Ara, Penang

We saw the advertisement banner of Xin Jiang Cafe few months ago when it start it's operation. But we did not have the chance to try it out. We passed by there once and did not see any customers there and thought that it was closed but after reading Cariso posts about this place, we decided to give it a try.
Xin Jiang Stall
Location: 14 A Lengkok Kenari, Desa Ria, Sungai Ara.
Tel: 04-6437885, 016-4227885
Stir fry enokitake mushroom with garlic ~ RM7
Hubby is asking the person who took our order what sort of vegetables available for the night and she gave us a list and we decided to order enokitake mushroom. As we asked how they cook the enokitake mushroom and she told us just stir fry with garlic. Since we never try it before, so we ordered this dish to try.
And it turns out to be nice. So this is another way for me to prepare a quick dinner. ^o^
Three cup chicken
Then we ordered three cup chicken too. There are lots of basil aroma in there and hubby loves it but however, I find that if they could deep fried the chicken to more crispy, it would taste more better. ^o^
Seafood Claypot ~ RM18
This is one of the dishes that attracts hubby and I to visit this place from Cariso's blog. As we think that there are lots of ingredients in the seafood claypot. ^o^ And the tastes vice is not bad. Look at the pictures and you will know what ingredients are inside the seafood claypot. And the prawns are quite big too. ^o^
Overall......the total bill is RM31.80(which include 1 rice).
